Who was it that mentioned Tekkit once before? I'm sorry I ignored you! I finally got around to giving it a try, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. It's still kind of hard to wrap my head around all this electrical engineering and machinery, and I spent half my time alt-tabbing to the game's online wiki, but nonetheless it's been pretty awesome so far.
I went into Creative mode to make a temple out of marble! Check it out!

Tekkit is a humongous addition to the basics of Minecraft that almost completely leaves the vanilla elements untouched, aside from the world generator spawning in a bunch of new metals and other things, like rubber trees, oil springs, and volcanoes. If you'd like, you can ignore all the extra stuff and still play Minecraft normally. Use what you want from the mod! You don't have to get into all this advanced machinery mumbo-jumbo, maybe you just want to take advantage of the cool new weapons you can craft, like the Knife, which is extremely easy to craft even without a crafting table handy and can be thrown a short distance, or the Warhammer, which deals big damage, big knockback, and can alt-fire to strike the ground with a splash damage effect, or even deadly firearms like a Crossbow and Musket!
There's also an absolutely ridiculous amount of half-block and semi-block options, which are mostly useful while in Creative mode, but can be accessed in Survival with a particular tool. Make your structures more elaborate than ever! I demonstrated some of these semi-blocks above, with Pillars, Slabs (which can be placed vertically), and Corner bits, but I only used the thickest setting available. There are three levels of thinness you can use if you love precise details!
I'm just scratching the surface here, this mod is so big that it merits its own thread and its own sever. I won't ask you all to perform a mass exodus from vanilla Minecraft to Tekkit (it took months for me to cave in and download the mod), but if you happen to be bored and looking for a brand new Minecraft experience, give this mod a try. Well, it's not just a mod, it's much more than that. It's a big ol' BUNDLE of mods that operates completely separate from vanilla Minecraft, with its own folder, its own saves, and its own executable java file that all operate independently of whatever Minecraft you're playing right now. If you were worried about Tekkit "replacing" your regular Minecraft, worry not.
You can download it here, but only if you have the latest Java. I had to run an installer, receive some kind of directory error, ignore said error, then look in my Roaming appdata folder for the tekkit launcher folder and continue the setup from there. After that I had little trouble.

Oh, one more thing. Hey James! Remember that ComputerCraft mod you were interested in a while back? That's included by default with Tekkit. As an interesting bonus, you can find Floppy Disks pre-loaded with basic programs as Dungeon loot! I thought that was awesome, though I've yet to try it to see if it works.
