I was actually going for GameBoy Color Dragon Warrior.
Either way, one of the nice little touches for that series that I liked about its walkabouts was that the characters were drawn with weapons at the ready but weren't always blatantly flipped; a character's sword and shield would be seen in the correct hands on their left- and right-facing sprites.

EDIT: And before anyone mentions that these look Earthbound/Mother series-ish, I should make it clear that the Mother series is one of my greatest inspirations not only for writings sake but also for graphics. I've been studying long and hard at a lot of Mother 3 screenshots as I find the simplistic texturing and shading very appealing. But no worries, I'm not aiming to knock off Itoi's masterpieces, rather I hope to make something that is completely me while honoring my idols.
