I figured it out. On my laptop it's Control+Fn+F12 Not sure if it's like that on all Mac's but that works for me. I was more or less wondering if it would be possible to make a screen-shot button that will work in my game for anyone regardless of if they're running Mac, Windows, of Linux. Like If 'P key' is pressed, take screen shot.

Very nice to clue in, I drew his stance by looking off a picture of Negative Man.

Depressing Emo wailed bad poetry at you!

Haha excellent. I knew for some reason I saw a parallel the instant I saw that sprite. For such a short battle with Negative Man, he really is one of the most iconic and memorable characters from my Mother 3 playing experience. I guess if you do create a character that unique he's bound to be remembered.

I like your style, though the Depressing Emo here looks like he has no thighs.

Yeah... some of those animations aren't quite as good as I'd want them to be, particularly the heavy weapon animation.

I'm also wondering if I've got those shooting animations right as I have very little experience with guns so I'm not quite sure how he should move. Or how to convey that movement with two frames, heh.

Any help or critique or whatever will be most appreciated.

The shooting animations look fine, my only complaint is the rifle is mirrored rather than fixed to one shoulder like the walking animations. Firearms are normally shot with your dominant hand - so it'd look silly to switch hands simply because you changed directions.

If you wanna get real finicky, pistols usually push upwards when fired, rather than straight back.

Hmm, righto then, I'll fix the rifle animation.

And blast me, I just noticed that I forgot to fix the stepping frame for the left animations. Blast it... Ah well, if I'm redoing the left animation of the rifles, might as well fix the other left animations, heh.

Hmm, I just realized I also need a flamethrower, a rocket launcher, and a few melee weapon stances as well.

And after those, female sprites as well.

And now I'm wondering if I should make different body sprites for the three main classes or if I should just keep these for all the classes. On the one hand, keeping them the same is easier. On the other, having different ones looks better. Hmm...

It is a good start, but I suggest trying to draw it running rather than standing. It gives you more interesting leg-poses to work with.

Check out a google image search for "running dog". Most of the results will be side-views of running dogs. You can also find silhouettes which should be helpful for the basic layout of the sprite.

For the face, I would pay special attention to the tip of the nose, and the shape of the mouth. Don't worry about the eyes, they could be just one slightly darker pixel, and don't worry about the ears, since they are floppy and can be almost any old way. The nose and the mouth (in my opinion) are key to making the dog's head look dog-like as opposed to cat-like or horse-like.

Thanks for the help, James! :D
Looking up pictures was a great idea!

I found some nice ones, now I'll try to daw the dog in a moving position, jumping or running.
Also I'll think about the head and nose, that might be the most difficult part, to fix that.

Edit:
Here's the result:
