Wanted to share some animations from a secret game project I'm working on in the OHR. It has become quite plotscript heavy to support long animations and walk cycles. The game's color palette consists of only 20 colors (including transparency).
EXPLOSION!!

SAVEPOINT!!

(I re-sized this one to 30x30. the original uses a hero graphic set, but that wastes space on PJ)

@Meowskivich: Don't sweat it! You'll get there. My old pixel art was AWFUL! Heh... If you don't believe me, just check out Blu Eternal on Castle Paradox. If you work on pixel art for fun, just one hour a day, you'd catch up to me in NO TIME!
@Jack: I get that a lot... I really should finish a game. I find myself getting sidetracked with paying gigs or frustrated with engine limitations. When that happens, I tend to forget about a project and never come back to it. As of this moment however, this game is the one I've worked on the longest and most consistently. If I could AFFORD to work on a game full time, I'd do that instead of my current job. Hopefully I'll have a demo or something out in the next few months (maybe then I should post my progress on kickstarter.com and try to get some funding).

That is the most delightful explosion animation ever. How many frames are in that thing?
Also, Eternal Blu is not a game you point at for examples of awful sprite art

Dude... Blu Eternal's graphics were awesome.

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the kind responses.
@RMSephy: I used 9 frames for the explosion graphic. the whole thing uses only 9 colors as well if I remember correctly. Took me about an hour or so to put together and another hour to fine-tune it.
@BMR: Thanks. I remember I was happy with Blu Eternal's graphics back when I made it... now I just kind of cringe. I'm glad you guys still appreciate it though.

Don't worry about it. Great graphic artists never seem to finish games anyway. So as long as you complete a project and give it some polish, you'll come out ahead.Master K wrote:AKA my life in a nutshell. It's times like these that make me feel like I can't do squat because of how much more awesome someone is at graphics than me.

That being said, I have been making some nice strides in programming.
...also, there is this.

I'm using 4 frame walk-cycles. It's been a bit difficult scripting (especially since arrays of slices would be helpful for all the NPCs), but I've got most of the bugs worked out now.

Master Palette
I made a new master palette. I have no doubt in its perfection. What do you all think about it?
