My turn to show how bad my old graphics were, hehe.
This is from Arena 2, circa 2002, an unfinshed game I was writing in qbasic.
I decided to go ahead and try to redraw/rebuild the map using graphics from Legacy.
I'd say that's decent progress for 10 years or so, hehe. Still looking to get better though, one can never improve enough nor should one stop trying to improve.
Though I am now tempted to make an OHR game using those old graphics, hehe.

The old graphics are very Ultima-esque.

Heh, well, I played a whole load of Ultima back in the day. I'm even a member of Ultima Dragons

Does this look like a forest?

Looks like a meadow on the outskirts of a forest, I'd advise heavier forestry to make it a forest, but it's pretty good lookin'.

This looks really giant... and hungry.
The Water looks really nice!
And I like how you placed the eyes, this makes it look evil.
But maybe the whole octpopus is a bit to large? (It's almost not inside the frame with it's head.) Or it's just the missing background that gives this illusion?

I haven't made the background yet, nor am I looking forward to doing so since James has yet to implement my desire to have an in-creator backdrop designer.
I will be lowering the thing, most likely, so don't worry too much about it looking too big to fit in. I'm thinking of exporting a wave sprite and using that to base the background on, at least in colour.

Out of curiosity, you don't use an external editor for any of your graphics?

Only when I have to. Which is only for backdrops. So basically, no.
Why do you ask?

Just curious. I don't think I've ever use a the built-in editor

I prefer to use the built in editor, I like the keyboard controls, as mouses (mice?) are unpredictable and my hands aren't the steadiest.
There should seriously be an image editor that allows keyboard use, as it helps in precision and detailing. Drawing a general thing, and then cleaning it up without having to swing your arm like you're playing a Wii party game would be awesome.
