I'm amazed by what you have done for it! :o

@BMR: I don't think the roots on those trees are too unrealistic. I'm not even sure what that means. In a fantasy world, anything can happen. However, those are some really uniquely drawn trees, which is a good thing. They'll stand out. I think instead of trying to change the trees to work on the background, find a background that fits with the trees. There are more environments than just grass. Either way, I think the trees are really eye-catching and interesting. I like them a lot.

"A background that fits" could also include a featureless circle of dirt around the base of the tree, on a grassy field. And yes, they're not so unrealistic, though I guess trees with roots that large will generally be much larger.

I like drawing trees

Those are some fun tree branches.

Reminds me I need to look at actual leafless tree branches and get a better understanding of how to draw them. In a way I'm still stuck in my grade school put-an-isosceles-triangle-on-a-rectangle phase when it comes to drawing tree pixel art.

Man, those trees are great! I hate drawing trees. How do you choose colors for the trunk? I always just used the typical brown ramps in Neo's and they always look super bland.

Thanks!

@Foxley: I spent some time browsing through the google image results for "<a href="https://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch& ... ling">snow covered pine sapling</a>" before I started on the small pine trees. It helped immensely.

@kylekrack: Here is a gif showing the ramp I used. I only used a 3-color ramp. More would have been overkill. Notice that I mixed two different brown ramps. That is a (very simple) example for the cross-ramp stuff that 0ion9 and TMC were talking about in the palette thread. Mixing your own ramps out of colors from different but similar ramps can produce good results

Specifically for tree trunks, I like browns that lean towards grey or white, and avoid browns that lean towards red (unless it is supposed to be a cedar, or a manzanita, or something that is *supposed* to be very red)

Going to have to agree and say that those are some nice looking trees. Feel their bases are a bit disconnected from the ground, though; maybe putting some snow around the tree bases would make it look better.[/img]

I could nitpick and point out that branches point towards the sun unless they become too heavy... but those are very nice trees even so. :)

Adding some snow to the ground at the base of the trunk helped enormously.

And yes, that is a good point-- northern hemisphere trees should have branches that tend to favor south-- but I can just say south is down, so they are all leaning towards the screen ;)

And, lastly, not really much of a graphic, more than it is concept art, for the player-character.

Oh yes! Vampire's Curse deserves more recognition. And you can finally fix that super loud rain ambience! But are you going to do up anything else?

...

Hi Spaz! Working on something new? Actually I think you might have mentioned it before, but can't remember. Excellent work!
