Wow! That's really well done, and an absolutely unique OHRRPGCE game. What a way to reappear -- yes, it's been a loooong time since you were seen! :)
It just so happens that one of the things at the top of my to-do list once we finally release the next stable version (Fufluns) is to implement 32-bit color backdrops, and also using backdrops as map layers. (Tilesets and sprites will be a lot trickier, however.) That'll really help you out.
There's also a lot of other great stuff posted here. guo is making a new game?? That's a pretty interesting art style.

Thanks
And yes, still OHR.
At the moment I have the base and hair layer, with clothes and weapon layer planned.
I am a bit unsure if I should include two cloth layers (say, upper and lower body), or one for accessoires (i.e. capes, shields, amulets), since every layer means I have to draw at least eight to sixteen new walkabouts
Here is the menu in action, with the walkabout running around a bit thereafter (no clothes layer, so, warning, pixel nudity XD)

Side Project!~
RPG with brawler perspective
...though it does have me thinking of making a scripted brawler engine for the ohr
edit :: ok it's a brawler

I guess I'm hyping at this point and not showing off graphics...

I decided the raccoon sprite I made for Maces Wild back in 2009 wasn't at all up to snuff...so I copied the head and tail off of Fnrrf's were-raccoon and pasted them into a small enemy graphic, altered the mouth and eyes a bit to make it look more wild, then drew a torso and limbs on it.
After going through the palettes I'd already made for TutOHRial, one of them really stood out. It's not exactly on-model but it's about as close as Natalie is in this game!
