Zone Discoveries

In conjunction with the article "Zoned In, Part 2" posted in this month's HamsterSpeak, I wanted to open up a discussion about the various uses that we, as a community, have given to zone maps in our games. The uses discussed can be minor and obvious, or tricky and surprising, but regardless of the hows and the whys, I'd like to hear about them, how you came to discover using a zone in such a way, how you implemented it in-game, why, and so on.

The best or most useful zone tricks, which we can be put to a vote, may become part of the next "Zoned In" feature along with my example of creating a "floating zone."

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, read this month's issue of HamsterSpeak:

Hope to hear about your ideas and/or uses soon.

P.S. Mogri, the button for URLs is broken. It erases the entire message.

I bet zones would help out a lot making a tactics game. You could use them to define terrain, create invisible path finding way-points, and who knows what else.
