Barring some kind of federal emergency, I should have a new version of Tales 2 up tomorrow night as well. However, it will almost certainly be untested, and so the "real" version is probably a week or two off. Just to make sure this is within the rules, here are the things I plan to add within the two week 'bug-fixing' window:
*fix any bugs I find, naturally
*fix any other problems I find as well, like grammar things, or accidentally empty treasure chests
*rebalance probably the majority of the enemy stats
*MAYBE recalibrate the aiming system to use the (relatively) new %-based aiming algorithms, although this will require a good bit of both work and thought that I probably won't have time for

Early release time!
Motrya is an old-school RPG, similar to those from the Super Nintendo console, that chronicles Murlor's journey through a strange, but sometimes familiar fantasy world.
What if you were fixing to graduate from school, but had never actually done the work required? Murlor would know how you'd feel.
Murlor's story begins on the evening of his graduation from Yormus Academy, where students practice the art of Forlae, which you might call "Magic" in our world. That day, Murlor learns all about some dark, secret stuff, and when the unthinkable happens, his peaceful life at Yormus is thrown in to chaos. If you want to know the full story, you'll have to check the game out today!
You can download Motrya here now!

This is the 24.5% version.
NOTE: The music is incomplete in this version, and will be changed by the time the 25% version is ready. Pardon that omission, but this is the best we could get done for HotOHR

Whoops... accidentally put an older version of game.exe in the new Okédoké zip file.
If you're using a nightly version more recent than May 2010, that shouldn't be a problem (just use your regular game.exe to play it.) But if you're still using an older version, you should probably re-download it to get the right okedoke.exe.

I might be making VERY SLIGHT updates to this file before the deadline. (Just uploaded one right now)
That's fair game, though. :) Special thanks to The Giz.

I am done making minor updates, I think. Any download from this point can be considered my HotOHR upload until after the scoring, probably. I won't likely update the file until the 25% version.

It's a pre Beta BETA!! I'll be releasing this as a bugtesting release before the Zenzenziac demo release (in a month?) so, I won't be ACTUALLY hosting it as a normal download. And I'll change the "version" to make it official.

Play it if you like, there'll only be minor cosmetic updates and bugfixes before the next engine release, so to hold you over until then, here's a DUCK.

OHR games are five time more spiffy with DUCKS.

Just so there's no confusion, I'm trying to at least make my game playable to the end of the chapter, and I'm wading through the bugs I made in haste right now.
I'll upload what I have before I go to bed [s]tonight[/s] this morning.

Okay, guys, I've been up long enough, so let me give you a heads up about what to expect next.
First off, I want to thank everyone who submitted an entry. I really didn't know what to expect from this contest (honestly, when I announced it last summer, I didn't think anyone would take it seriously). The entries that have been submitted so far have already made this successful in my book. So thanks for that.
Secondly, if you haven't submitted your game yet, you only have four hours to go (or you still have four hours if you're an optimist) until the deadline. So wrap it up.
Thirdly, I will still accept entries after the 6am EST deadline under the following guidelines:
-Bug and feature ransoms officially end at the deadline, so if the link to your game is not on one of the forums by then, you will not get the bounty, and James will have an excuse to procrastinate on it forever and ever, or until he has the time to implement it.
-T-shirts will not be given to anyone who submits after 6pm EST (12-hour buffer). At 6pm, the penalties for lateness will also begin.
-Games will still be accepted for voting purposes up to the official game fix deadline on December 15th. However, you'll lose a point off your final score for each day it's late, so try not to wait until December 14th if you want to stand any kind of chance at winning.
-Voting will begin on December 16th and run until the end of the year.
Good luck to all who entered (and to those who want to chance lateness over neverness).
Finally, Heart of the OHR is drawing to a close, but this doesn't mean we have to stop preparing for it--
Yes, Heart of the OHR 2 will begin on June 1st, 2012, and run until November 30th, 2012, so get started now if you want to submit something awesome. The rules will be nearly identical, except for one caveat:
Since we now have the origin contest out of the way, it's safe to add a new official rule beginning with HotOHR2: Any game released for this contest that gets a major update for the next one will receive an additional 5 points to its overall score. Yes, I will reward you for not abandoning your game at the demo stage. So, if you released one tonight, but weren't entirely happy with it, make up for it in 2012 with a stellar new update and receive 5 additional points.
I'll think of a counterbalance for new games just to be fair, though.
Anyway, thanks again. If you haven't finished your game yet, please do so soon.

I uploaded mine.
(Here it is:
http://www.slimesalad.com/forum/viewtop ... 1445#71445 )
(tl;dr: This game is terrible.)
I'm not particularly proud of this release - but I know that if I didn't release it now, I would never want to anyway. Plus it's only fair - I promised something, so here it is.
There are a lot of problems. In the next few days I'll be fixing the script and graphics glitches especially. Maybe balance after that.
It's almost exactly 30 minutes if you read everything. If you don't, not really. But I'm not trying to win. In fact, if I make someone else feel better about their release, that's fine with me.
As a bit of backstory: When this contest started, I had just begun work on a game I'm calling Silhouette. I worked on it throughout June, July, and August, and I plan on releasing it someday. But as I worked on it, it became less and less RPG. Now it's some sort of mix between RPG, Roguelike, and puzzle game. I decided it wasn't fit for HotOHR. So, I stopped. And forgot about the contest.
Then, when November started, a writer friend of mine reminded me of National Novel Writing Month, and she mentioned that it's really supposed to be about reviving dead projects and finally getting something out there. That reminded me of this contest, and I thought it was perfect. So I pulled out a game that I had only barely started years ago. I had a few text boxes, a few graphics, but nothing substantial.
So what you're seeing is what I can pull out in one month while I'm also working on grad-school applications. It's not great, but I think it will evolve into something in the coming months/years.
I also will be using my grace period pretty heavily. If it disqualifies me, I guess I don't really mind. I didn't plan on winning. I just wanted to go with the spirit of the contest.
Also, I didn't mean to write that much.
[edit: HotOHR2 will be awesome. I promise. And I'm getting those 5 points, grad-school be damned.]
But what happened to Chapter 1?

Here it is, Viridia.
Chapter 2, version 1. Version 2 comes during the bugfix period with bugfixes and some changes to what's already there. You can play it all the way through, but there are some bugs to beware of and a
big-lipped alligator ending. Hope ya'll don't mind.
Picture related.

Whoa, my game claims to have been posted at 6am EST on the dot. That's pretty crazy. I got caught up with some friends this evening and didn't get to do much of what I planned to do, so this is totally untested. But I'm hoping to finally test everything and re-release within a week, certainly before voting starts.
I feel a bit funny about this, because there's probably going to be a lot of work put in during that time, but the rules seem to allow this way of doing it - cramming the content for the first deadline, and making sure it works for the 2nd one.

About the point deductions...
Is that for games that haven't been submitted at all yet, or if we revise/bugfix what we put up before the deadline?

Is there a collective lists of all the entries anywhere?
