We currently have a bug open about Midi music crashing in Windows Vista

I am looking for more testers who have Windows Vista and are willing to help reproduce this bug.

This is the nightly version for today, right?

Is there a way to pick what version you're using to edit a file, or do you have to uninstall what you currently have and replace it?

I have a little feedback on this. One of my playtesters is using The Beast That is Known as Vista.

He constantly complained about random crashes that I for one had never encountered. It was always when a song was loading, so I checked the bug list and saw this little gem. One of the testers mentioned a work-around, so I installed a nightly, Circa: 20090629, as it reads in engine.

After sending him the same files included the Game.exe from that nightly, he said he played the game in full (as full as it is) without a hitch.

Considering how often it crashed beforehand (sometimes immediately,) I'd suggest the work-around was a big help, if not the cure.

I've noticed that BAMs cause Vista to crash. Bloodlust used to have a BAM music file that would play and the game would crash everytime. I removed the BAM, and no more crashes. o.o

This is strange, because I'm using Vista to make Maces Wild, it only has one non-BAM music, and I've never had any problems.

Of course, I'm using Xocoatl+2, not a nightly.

It is strange that there is so much inconsistency with this one.

I wonder if this is actually caused by some Vista driver for common sound cards. That might explain why it only happens on vista, but never happens to some vista users.

Only One In All: What about MIDI files? BAM and MIDI are played almost exactly the same way, so it would be pretty strange for one to crash and not the other.

If it helps, the BAM file that was crashing was a 'blank' BAM file. It was several seconds of silence basically, and that caused it to crash for some reason.

I've had a couple of crashes now, both in Walthros, both in one of the sluggish cave levels (where abundant scripting seems to be causing a slowdown). Strange that I don't remember this happening back in Dr. Mu's lab, which caused the same kind of slowdown.
