So I went over the spreadsheets and stuff I use for creating magic items as well as the rules for creating them. It turns out all this time, I've been making a pretty big mistake with computing the costs of stuff.
I looked at it, and I've been computing the market/base price of the items correctly, as per the SRD rules. However, to create the items, I've been paying the market/base price, and not the cost to create. I only realized it when looking at the Lantern of Revealing. The market price is 30,000 gp, and the formula from the SRD (Spell level × caster level × 2,000 gp) also comes out to 30,000 gp, which is the correct market/base price. And that's the formula I've been using to calculate how much I should pay, when actually I should only have been paying half that because "Magic supplies for items are always half of the base price in gp".
Hoo boy. Oh well, chalk one up to past mistakes and stupidity :P I'll be sure to compute things correctly from now on, I guess.

I noticed that one of the remaining magical books, The Enchiridion of Agos is written in Celestial.
That got me curious as to how I could learn new languages, and I found http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/speakLanguage.htm which seems to indicate that I can learn new languages simply by spending a single skill point on them-- am I reading that wrong?

I certainly think so! It's a class skill for Bards, so the single skill point thing would buy one rank, and the skill description says you buy it just like a rank, noly instead of a skill, you speak a language or don't.
How this works mechanically mid-game, I have no idea. Where we've got a book of celestial, maybe it suddenly makes sense after hours of study. Or maybe it's like that foreign exchange student episode of The Simpsons where Bart just suddenly begins speaking en Francais. But it sounds like a fun thing to roleplay either way!

Yea, see the problem stems from a lack of skill level of spoken languages. you can't speak or read SOME of a language in D&D. you either know nothing of the language or know everything. There are several supplementary rules that address this, but I have not really given any of them too much thought.
Think of it like this, it's a land of magic and feats of wonder. It's just easier for people to learn languages here.

Yeah, and you could definitely play games with it too. Rob talks to angels and they correct his pronunciation and slime.
EDIT: Ps, I hope you have rules for prostitution. WOO!

If the plow doesn't work, or if Kalar notices it damages the bodies too much, he'll stop plowing. At midnight, when he prays for spells, he'll prepare Burrow (Underdark) and cast it. It grants burrow movement speed of 10 feet. He'll use that the excavate all of the bodies and then take them all to the forest where he'll animate them all as skellies after casting Desecration. In one casting with desecrate, he can animate 40 HD, of which he can control 26 HD. The remaining 14 HD he will control via rebuke (13 HD) and undead leadership (30 lvl 1)

Regarding the cathedral, what sort of construction are we looking at? Standard Gothic cathedral with loads of flying buttresses? Or something simpler?
Also, from where we are, what's our estimated size of the town, i.e. number of buildings, how many people, general area, etc...
Oh, and last question, it's still early morning, right? And Dan says that the beast isn't appearing for sure until the next morning, so that's around another 20-24 hours of time that we have to find the dude?

Yeah, I am a little confused.
From what I understood, it sounds as if:
* The Beast is already here.
* Azedarc knows we are coming, and knows why, and has disguised the beast from us
* The Beast is already disguised as a monk, and presumably the other monks have no idea
* Tomorrow the beast will show its true form, regardless of whether we have identified which monk it was hiding as, and it will wreck havoc on the city (and on us)
Am I close here?
