Ooh! Nice.

So if I understand correct, if I put all 8 ranks into Use Magic Device next level, then that means I will get a +11 for attempts to read scrolls meant for Wizards and Sorcerers.... and the DC is 20+ spell caster level, so I would have a 50% chance of successfully reading a level 1 Wiz/Sorc scroll, and a 25% chance of successfully reading a level 6 Wiz/Sorc scroll.

Risky, since I have a high chance of wasting the scroll, but certainly better than not being able to use them at all.

How does Use Magical Device interact with the chance of Scroll Mishaps?

There's a chance for mishap using magic device AND using the scroll. So, kinda double.
(However, thaat's only if you were using the scrolls blindly, but they have been identified so that doesn't apply.)

So Silas is back from the beyond?

It's moments like this that make me glad Lynda is a ghost right now.
On that note, I'm still not going to be rejoining the group just quite yet, so keep Lynda in this sort of spectator mode for now.

That's the plan.
You can't come back till you will yourself to, which is hard to do when you're not here.

Ah, righto. Hmm, Kalar will study the book about undead then, while Hrulgin studies the one about vampire magic.

So I felt like painting Kalar:

Image

Prolly needs a few more finishing touches (i.e. the wooden mask, the round metal thingies, the boots, shadows, etc...), but I've spent too long on this already, so oh well.

Haha! Very nice! I like it :)

By the way, someone should totally search Silas's corpse for valuables.

I have updated his <a href="http://www.thetangledweb.net/forums/pro ... >character sheet to remove the items that were already taken by Lynda and Kalar right after he died.

Things already taken when he died

* Rations x4 (to Galse)
* Black Onyx ring from statue (to Lynda)
* Dagger, punching (to Lynda)
* Spell component pouch (to Kalar)
* Scepter of Arcane Casting from magic Statue (to Lynda)

His remaining stuff was mostly just useless adventuring gear and trinkets, but it would be really interesting to see if his corpse is carrying anything new now. What if it is a copy of his corpse from the moment he died? Is it still possible that he is still carrying the things that were taken from him after he died? Is it possible that

Also, does anybody remember what happened to Lynda's Scepter of Arcane Casting? As soon as she took it, it transformed into a snake. I remember her having a snake later, but I think it may have been forgotten after a while. Does she still have it? Is it still in snake form? Did anyone ever figure out how it works when in Scepter/Staff form?

The snake staff and the scepter are two separate items things. The snake staff came from the cleric and the scepter from a statue. Same room though, which I guess is where the confusion stemmed from. The snake staff is currently acting as Lynda's animal companion. Since she so often has wears her amulet, it has been trapped in staff form.

Kalar at Level 12

Changes:

Took a level in Divine Disciple (Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting) prestige class.

HP roll: (1d12+0) 11+0 = 11

Gains 5th level spell casting.

Divine Disciple bonus domain: Took Baator domain (Spell Compendium). Baator domain takes up both a cleric's domains, but Kalar has three domains now. Opted to lose Nobility domain.

Gains Divine Emissary ability: "Divine disciples can telepathically communicate with any outsider within 60 feet, as long as that outsider serves the disciple's deity or has the same alignment as the disciple."

Took feat: Mother Cyst (Libris Mortis)

Ability increase: +1 to Wis

New leadership score: 12 (Level) + 2 (CHA) + 2 (Undead Leadership) = 16
Followers: 25/2/1

Skills: +1 to Knowledge (Religion), Diplomacy, Concentration, and Heal

Question about crafting with the Craft skill.

When Kalar uses Unseen Crafter, the crafter can last for 9 days at a time. If he sets it to make weapons, and assuming there's a supply nearby, would the following calculations be correct?

Kalar orders the unseen crafter to make shortspears using wood for the hafts (assuming there are some trees in the area at least) with stone for the pointy bits.

The crafter has a +7 (Kalar's Wis bonus) to its craft skill, and can take 10. So it can consistently hit a 17 on its craft check.

Following the rules on Craft skill page, the item's price is 1 gp = 10 sp.

The DC of simple weapons is 12.

Kalar doesn't pay one third of the item's cost for raw materials as they are going to be taken from the environment rather than purchased.

The crafter's check for one week of work is 17, which means the check succeeds.

The check multiplied by the DC is 17 × 12 = 204.

According to the text, "If the result × the DC equals the price of the item in sp, then you have completed the item. (If the result × the DC equals double or triple the price of the item in silver pieces, then you’ve completed the task in one-half or one-third of the time. Other multiples of the DC reduce the time in the same manner.)".

The price of the item in sp is 10 sp, meaning the check is 2,040% higher than the cost and the crafter would be done in far less time.

Would I be right in assuming that in a week's time the unseen crafter could make 20 spears?

20 spears seems like a very fair amount of spears. Though, they'd be crude spears. Stone tips and all that.

Yeah, they're not going to be for anything more than arming the skellies Kalar animates. They won't be too effective with them, but 20 skellies lined up with spears can form a passable wall. That, and having the unseen crafter make large shields (or even tower shields) after the spears, and Kalar can have a skeleton phalanx of sorts. They won't be much for attacking, but should be passable at defense.
