Tim-Tim opens the pack and peers inside.

Tim-Tim:
There isn't much in the pack of worth. A couple of trail rations, some old and rotten rope, and a healer's kit.

Search (1d20 + Ranks + INT)
  • Tim-Tim: 16 + 0 + 1 = 17 Success
On closer inspection though, you notice a hidden compartment inside the pack. Upon opening it, you find a golden signet ring, a sealed envelope, and a couple of, what look to be, spell scrolls.

Listen (1d20 + Ranks + WIS)
  • Akbar: 16 + 0 + 1 + 1 = 18 Success
    Beardthar: 10 + 0 + 3 + 2 = 15 Fail
    Peanut: 11 + 4 + 1 + 2 = 18 Success
    Spittle: 18 + 0 + 0 = 18 Success
    Tim-Tim: 6 + 0 + 3 + 2 = 11 Fail
It's very faint, but you can just hear the sound of footsteps coming from the west.

Spot (1d20 + Ranks + WIS)
  • Akbar: 6 + 0 + 1 + 1 = 8 Fail
    Beardthar: 15 + 5 + 3 = 23 Success
    Peanut: 8 + 5 + 1 = 14 Fail
    Spittle: 19 + 0 + 0 = 19 Success
    Tim-Tim: 13 + 0 + 3 = 16 Fail
Near the backpack, and obscured by shadows and behind a rock, is a dark brown pouch. It looks as if it may have fallen out of the pack.

Something's coming from the west
Spittle gets to the westerly side of the group.

Ignoring the others Tim-Tim tries to figure out what spells these scrolls hold, but not before silently handing the sealed envelope to Beardthar.
Found this, and a gold signet ring.

Tim-Tim

Spellcraft (1d20 + Ranks + INT)
Tim-Tim: 16 + 6 + 1 = 23 Success
Both of the scrolls are Command Undead.

Beardthar

Appraise (1d20 + Ranks + INT)
Beardthar: 14 + 0 + 1 = 15
The ring is rather well made. It feels to be solid gold, judging by its weight. By the size of it though, it was made for a man, definitely bigger than Spittle. The symbol it bears is not familiar to you, it looks to be a tree crossed by a spear and a sword, but that is the only detail you can make out in the poor light. You estimate its value to be at least 7,000 gp, though if it's an official signet ring, it could be worth a lot more.

Beardthar wrote:That ring is nice! I'll be it is worth a pretty pile of coin. I wonder who it belonged to? Somebody with big fingers certainly! I don't recognize the tree-spear-sword symbol on it
Beardthar then turns his attention to the envelope in his hands. He examines it closely, shakes it, tests to see how well it is sealed... does everything short of actually tearing it open.

Beardthar

You hear nothing inside the envelope, seems to contain nothing more than paper. It's sealed with a glob of red wax, on closer inspection, it bears the same insignia as the signet ring.

"I hear it too. I was hoping that was the last of them..." His voice dropping to become much lower.

Realizing what the others are talking about, Beardthar tucks the letter into his pack for later inspection, readies his quarterstaff in his hand, calls rock-head to heel, and then falls silent himself.

Holy Saint Akbar al-Akbar notices it's gotten quiet and stops rooting his tongue around his teeth for that thing he can't get out.

Oh, crap. Did someone ask him a question? Someone must've asked him a question! "Yeah," he says, nodding in agreement.

No one seems to think this is out of place. Another victory for Holy Saint Akbar al-Akbar.

From the west, a small kobold pokes its head in from behind a rock. For the most part, it looks more curious than anything else.

It steps out from behind the rock and takes a few cautious steps towards your group. You notice that it's far smaller than the kobolds you faced before, it's possible it might be a kobold child.

Ah, command undead.. well that's not going to help us right now, but I guess I'll hang on to them anyways. You never know when you'll run into... what's that? Oh no, Another Kobold!

The color spray hits the child, knocking it back a few steps. It topples, stunned and stoned out of its mind.

Tim-Tim, satisfied with what he has done, goes now and checks the new pouch that Beardthar has alerted him to.

Realizing it's probably a trap, but compelled by a fools kind of conscience, Spittle goes to see if the kobold child is alright.
