Peanut shifts his eyes around suspiciously while otherwise a blank face in his anticipation, "They might have more traps though, and want us to walk into them."

(OOC: Would it at all be possible to make Search checks as we travel to see if we can find any traps they may have placed?)

(OOC: I do Search checks each time there's a trap nearby, I was assuming that you were all actively checking for traps. I'll only post a Search result if there's at least one person who rolls successfully though, otherwise I don't post a result. Well, I do post, but in the form of the trap triggering, hehe.)

Listen (1d20 + Ranks + WIS)
  • Akbar: 7 + 0 + 1 + 1 = 9 Fail
    Beardthar: 15 + 0 + 3 = 18 Success
    Peanut: 17 + 4 + 1 + 2 = 24 Success
    Spittle: 8 + 0 + 0 = 8 Fail
    Tim-Tim: 17 + 0 + 3 + 2 = 22 Success
Whoever was there previously, seems to have gone as you can't hear anything else. In the silence though, you hear a sudden *click* sound up to the north.

Tim-Tim searches around for a good size throwing rock. Once found, he casts light on the rock and tosses it as far north as he can. Planning to pick it up when they get up there and then toss it again, thus extended their sight range and potentially setting off traps.

observes Beardthar, as he watches what Tim-tim is doing. He takes his rope and grappling hook out of the pack.
Beardthar wrote:But it won't trigger any traps that it doesn't hit. That trap by the gate was a tripwire, so I wouldn't be surprised if that is the Kobold's trigger-of-choice. we can toss the rope and grapple as far as the light stone, and then drag it back. Then we can advance to the lightstone and repeat.
But after a moment, Beardthar wrinkles his nose, feeling a sudden attack of indecisiveness.

Beardthar stands beside the mule, throws the grappling hook as far as he can down the passage, and then rapidly reels the rope back in, ready to duck behind the mule if anything goes "Twang"

The grappling hook flies into the darkness. The light shining from it casts strange shadows across the passage. As Beardthar pulls back the rope, it snags on something around fifteen feet or so north. A tug doesn't cause it to go *TWANG* though, but rather *SWISH* as a blade hidden in the rock face near the grappling hook swings out at roughly waist-height.

The blade doesn't retract, but instead stays there, a grim and rather sharp reminder of what was almost a rather painful moment. The grappling hook doesn't snag on anything else as Beardthar reels the rope back in.

Peanut curiously watches the grappling hook light up with no explanation as to why. After the trick Beardthar utilizes to spring the trap, Peanut chippers, "That was handy! I wish I could've carried mine with me!" He relaxes his arms behind his head with a grin, forgetting what 'worry' means.

Beardthar wrote:Wow! Nasty piece of work that is!

Let's keep moving
Beardthar gently coaxes the mule into moving, hoping it is too dumb to realize that it is being used as a meat shield.

When they are past the srpung blade trap, he will repeat the grapple-throwing performance

Spittle watches this spectacle quietly, hoping that the inevitable force of ambushing kobolds will grant some mercy for the entertainment provided.

Beardthar throws the grappling hook out and reels it back in. This time, it doesn't snag on anything on the way back. The light from the hook sends shadows out across the walls, throwing things into sharp contrast as it moves.

Spot (1d20 + Ranks + WIS)
  • Akbar: 17 + 0 + 1 + 1 = 19 Success
    Beardthar: 15 + 5 + 3 = 23 Success
    Peanut: 11 + 5 + 1 = 17 Success
    Spittle: 7 + 0 + 0 = 7 Fail
    Tim-Tim: 11 + 0 + 3 = 14 Fail
As Beardthar throws the grappling hook, you notice some shapes ahead. You can tell for sure that they're kobolds, and they seem to be readying their spears to attack after seeing that Beardthar has a way to bypass their traps.

Listen (1d20 + Ranks + WIS)
  • Akbar: 7 + 0 + 1 + 1 = 9 Fail
    Beardthar: 9 + 0 + 3 = 12 Fail
    Peanut: 13 + 4 + 1 + 2 = 20 Success
    Spittle: 8 + 0 + 0 = 8 Fail
    Tim-Tim: 10 + 0 + 3 + 2 = 15 Success
Over the rasp of the grappling hook, you hear footsteps approaching you from behind. By the sound of it, you would guess there are two to three behind you, and coming fast.

Peanut's hands are already in reach of his quiver upon seeing the Kobolds, and thusly reaches for an arrow while lowering his other hand towards his bow, "I guess they ran out of ideas and have to use themselves as traps..."

Upon hearing footsteps though, Peanut's stride is broken, and he feels slightly humiliated that the 'trap' might actually be a good one, "Wait, uh..." He quickly checks behind him, "I think they're behind us too!"

Beardthar, whispering wrote:I think they are on to us! I am sure I can see some kobolds with spears hiding in the shadows up there
Beardthar points as surreptitiously as he can (which isn't very surreptitiously)
Beardthar, still whsipering wrote:This section of the passage is clear of traps, so lets charge them, see if we can scare them and let them know they can't ambush us! On the count of 5!
And then in a normal voice, Beardthar calls out

Before Beardthar can get another word out though, a spear flies through the air.

Kobold 5: 12 + 0 + 1 = 13 Miss!

With the spear, you hear shrieks of anger as the kobolds jump out of the shadows brandishing spears and axes.

Combat Begins

Initiative Roll

Spittle readies his halberd against a charge attack. He doesn't think it'd be prudent to run off into the dark since he's the only one who can't see.
