Speaking of rules, I was just combing the internet for the answer to a bit of an issue that just came up in the campaign. The answer seems to be in the party's favor. You'll see soon.

I am amused that after waiting around for something like a month to get over the dumb pit, we kill the big monster guy in a single round.

That was so cool!

Spoonweaver, what were the rules you were researching? Judging by the amount of damage Ehaism did there it looks like you went with a something closer to a multiplicative theory of weight x distance instead of an additive one... but it was obviously not 70d6, so I am curious what the actual roll formula looked like

It was a critical hit. I assume he was researching whether it was possible to critically fall on someone.

Right on the mark there. Basically there aren't rules for jumping on to someone/something. So I was taking rules from other things and putting them together to form a rule that met my needs. Critical'ing didn't really apply to the falling damage table I was using, but because I made it an attack and then rolled a 20, I really had to stick with it. It wouldn't have been fair to back out after the fact. I also went ahead and power attacked for you too.

Twinconclusive wrote:Cile walks towards the Helm of Teleportation and picks it up.
Cile wrote:Well, I think I've figured out how we're going to get out of here. If I'm right, this thing should have around three charges. And if I'm right, we only need two to get back up there.
Asking this in Meta, because Ehaism is not smart enough to think about the implications of teleportation :)

According to this the helm lets you teleport up to 100 miles 3 times PER DAY! *joy*

I'm not sure what you had in mind, but you could teleport all the way back to dunderstank with a handful of coins, buy a couple big buckets and as much rope as you can carry, and teleport back with them.

Then we can can spend the next few weeks hauling buckets of gold up to the wagon :)

... actually though, now that I think about it more, with 1.5 round trip teleports per day, 212084 coins at 1 pound per 50 coins... that is about 4242 pounds of coins... Cile's seems to have the largest max carrying capacity of 259 (assuming he doesn't drop anything he already has) so should take about 11 days to teleport the treasure to a safehouse somewhere... but that requires us all to trust Cile (or whoever does the teleport work)

Also, how the heck are we going to find a good safehouse for this treasure?

Thinking about this even more, maybe we should barricade the entrance to this place, set a few traps maybe, and then teleport ourselves to the market district of Dunderstank and go shopping! (Ehaism is the only one heavy enough that teleporting piggyback might be a problem, but not so heavy we couldn't do it)

We go shopping, and when we find something we want to buy, the helm-wearer teleports back here to our gigantic-coin-purse-fortress-in-the-desert and gets the right amount of money.

Thinking about this even further, there is also a (small) chance that some other adventurers are already doing this trick on this same pile of treasure. The monster Ehaism just killed could even be something that someone planted here to guard the treasure for them until they come back to spend some more of it.

This possibility is unlikely because if they were doing this they wouldn't leave a helm of teleport behind, since it would be more useful for accessing the treasure than as a part of the treasure. Also the lack of any obviously man-made defenses to the entrance tunnel suggests that nobody has already fortified this place.

Thinking a little further, if we could find a magical item shop selling a second helm of teleportation, our one-day-range for accessing the treasure could be trippled to 300 miles. Helms of teleportation cost 73500 gold, and our pool of gold and platinum totals 320467 gold in value (not counting magic items) so spending 22.6% of that on just faster spending range would not be a good investment, so nevermind :)

Also, exactly how far away is Dunderstank? I am pretty sure we have not been traveling long enough to be 100 miles away from it?

EDIT: actually, if we have been averaging 3-miles per hour, and traveling most of the day, then yes, we could have traveled more than 100 miles from dunderstank. But I doubt we have gone more than 300 miles, so with 3 teleport jumps a day, the leave-the-treasure-here scheme could still work, it just means that whoever goes to fetch shopping money has to be prepared to camp overnight before returning with it.

Ah, you are missing a key factor in determining the range of the helmet. It's got Caster Level 9.
Teleport carries it's user 100 miles per catser level. (900 miles)
and 1 other person, +1 other person per 3 caster levels (4 other people)

So, in short it can carry the whole party back to town. and then back to the treasure and then back to town; each day

Oh and no, I didn't plan for this to be here really. I rolled the treasure, and everything in it (besides the monk's scroll and the rod of knowing) is random. I did tweak the sword a bit. It was a longsword, but I figured I'd just bump it up to greatsword, the powers remained unchanged as you might have guessed from it's undead bane.
But even unplanned at the time I've had plenty of time to plan for the use of the helmet and the other items, having rolled the treasure ahead of time.

[s]
On that note, should I just skip ahead a bit and identify Vire's things and the stuff in the wagon?[/s]yea, I should.

Cile is interested in:

Boccob's Blessed Book
A Ring of Invisibility
a scroll of cure light wounds
a scroll of enlarge
a scroll of major image
a scroll of locate object
a scroll of stinking cloud

Although he has no claim to your past loot,
Cile has a fancy towards the +2 headband of intellect.
