It is a shame, I was really liking Cile. he had a lot of personality.
Ehaism, on the other hand, is going to forget who Cile even was before we finish running away from the thing that eats him :)
Nah, actually, really I am just waiting to see what happens next. I might jump in there too if I had any rational reason to believe Ehaism might survive the fall.

So how does falling damage work anyway? I heard some mumbo-jumbo about "tumble ranks" and assumed that was why he survived.Spoonweaver wrote:Ehaism's tougher than Cile, I know that, you know that, Ehaism knows that. If he survived the fall then so can you.
Also: opinions on whether or not it is a crazy idea to try and jump ON the beast?
EDIT: I just found http://www.d20srd.org/srd/environment.htm#falling
Let's see if I am calculating this right.
* 80 foot fall would mean 8d6 damage.
* But an intentional jump means the first d6 is nonlethal damage...
* And the yielding surface of the pile of gold means the second d6 is nonlethal too...
* Then I have a choice of a jump check or a tumble check for reducing damage further...
Ehaism's Jump is +7, which is the same as Cile's Tumble.
Now I am wondering if Cile used his Tumble +7 or his formidable Jump +14 or some combination of both?
EDIT: Also I see under the section for "Falling Object" damage that Ehaism, weighing 250 pounds should deal 7d6 damage to anything he lands on from that height. (like the nice soft head of this squishy BEAST... or does that mean landing on the hard pointy TEETH of the BEAST?)

Cile took 6d6 dmg.
intentional jump: -1d6
tumble check: -1d6
(tumble or jump can't reduce the dmg past 1d6, and it's a DC15 to do so)
The gold is not a soft surface.
The monster looks kinda soft though.
And better to attack your first round than simply take damage. It's just too bad you cant do something like power up your jump attack and squish it completely.

But they saw the monster drop down and are now able to react.Twinconclusive wrote: They're not even in the battle area yet~!
I wouldn't want you to think I was cheating the monster out of harms way.Twinconclusive wrote: Monster can drop from the ceiling and take no damage, but I take a tumble and am half dead >:I
There's a number of reasons why the monster didn't take damage, and I'll explain a couple. First, this diagram.

As you can see, you fell farther than the creature.
Second this creature can jump better than you.
Third this creature has a few abilities that helped it. I sort of hinted at one already.

guess that means climbing down would be pretty damn near impossible?Spoonweaver wrote:

Starving to death in the bottom of that pit with Cile would be worth it if I could pull off a move like that :)
EDIT: Thinking out loud here, correct me if I am wrong, but 250 pound barbarian + Enlarge Person spell + 80 foot jump onto head = 70d6 damage

you are wrong, I can't even begin to guess where 70d6 even came from.James Paige wrote: EDIT: Thinking out loud here, correct me if I am wrong, but 250 pound barbarian + Enlarge Person spell + 80 foot jump onto head = 70d6 damage
I'd use the d20 modern rules for falling objects.
IF you enlarged yourself I'd say you'd be about 8d6 worth of falling object damage plus 8d6 from falling. This would then include anything you added to attacks as well, such as strength. And also, you'd have to roll to hit. and trust me, a miss would be bad.

Oh! Haha! I figured 8d6 for a 2000 pound object multiplied by 1d6 for each 10 feet past the first 10 feet... which was silly because the page I was reading very clearly says added not multiplied.Spoonweaver wrote:you are wrong, I can't even begin to guess where 70d6 even came from.
