Game of the Month: September 2013

By near-unanimous decision, Walthrus decorates the front page this month.

The poll is a little sparse this month because you all decided to discuss Unicode instead of nominating games. Edo was nominated, but it's not hosted on Slime Salad.

Between the two unfinished games about cartoon policemen fighting various criminals in cities named after but not geographically based on real US cities, I have to say that the other guy's game is better than mine. At least for now.

And as far as nominating games, since I haven't played a lot of new, good games from outside the list of previous victors I'm going through the back pages to find stuff I remember being good.

Vikings of Midgard
Stinkmace: Legend of Dinosaur Triple
Timestream Saga
Tales of the New World II
Totally... Gihern
Puckamon
Hedgemaze Demo ver. 2.1
Super Walrus House
Gargan and Troy
AXLE RPG
Final Fantasy H
Thanksgiving Quest

I don't remember any more if there's a limit to the number of nominations. If I can't do all those, I'll just nominate Hedgemaze and AXLE RPG.

Final Fantasy H...
Final Fantasy H was decent besides a few things:
1 - It's really REALLY easy
2 - There are absolutely no indicators in the elf's forest to let you know where ANYTHING is.
3 - It seems to be really crashy.
4 - The poison dagger, or whatever weapon it was that adds poison on chance, is really over-powered.

I stopped playing after the elf forest because it really ticked me off, and the crashing was a glaring help towards that decision. And basically, I've not touched it since.
It was relatively fine up to that point, though. I found it neat that each area has some set monsters you can hunt to bring out a super monster to fight for a prize that you had to look for, that's something I'll have to keep in mind for my games, now that I am remembering that...

Pretty sure the poison dagger just straight-up did poison damage instead of HP damage, so yeah, overpowered.

The game wasn't crashy at all back when I used to play it...like 2004 through 2010.

Also, the game comes with its own walkthrough, so if you have any problems with "walk into all the walls until you get somewhere" in the forest, you can just look up the answers.

It was never really great, and hasn't aged gracefully, but it's a lot better than a Final Fantasy remake/fangame on the OHR should be expected to be, there were very few bugs, and it was complete.

My goal for Final Fantasy H was "this should be the benchmark that other Epic OHR games should try to surpass", and... well it's not really GREAT but it's not AWFUL. And it's complete, so, there's that. Nomination seconded.

Also, nominating:
