Oh wow, I hadn't even thought about having massive jumbo-sized hero sprites now that the sprite size limitations are all gone. That's really handy for having size differences between characters actually noticeable while also not making the small guys too small. Looks like it works really well! (I th...

I suppose if Nathan Karr shows up, he could make the decision. It's his game. Is there any way to Ping him? It's possible to send members private messages on these forums. I think the forum's even set up to send an email alert to you when you get a PM, so even if he's not actively checking the foru...

When it comes to posting edited versions of someone else's games, you'll have to ask the person who made the game. There's no general rule. I would definitely not recommend uploading an edited version of someone else's game without their permission. Heck, even editing the game without someone's perm...

Turn-based mode is pretty much like in the NES Final Fantasy games (before ATB was introduced in FF4) or Pokémon. Every hero and enemy gets one turn each round, no matter how fast they are, because speed just determines who goes first in each round. In ATB mode you can definitely make a character (...

The method I used for Nintendo Quest and Fnrrf used for Puckamon (completely independently) was to have all attacks chain to a self-targeting MP heal.
I actually got the idea of doing that in Puckamon from the way Nintendo Quest did it, so not quite completely independently. 😅

Nice! Has a very NES Final Fantasy-ish feel to it (the world map especially), but with some Dragon Warrior-esque aspects mixed in (sprites not having black outlines, and the shops/etc. being "actual size" on the map rather than having doors with separate maps for them.) Seems like enough o...

That said, I think that having consumable items that wear out after maybe 20-30 seconds' worth of walking around is almost just as annoying, and that's how Repel/Fairy Water usually works. Opening the item menu and using an item over and over again if you're in the "I don't want that many batt...

Seeing those two GIFs of this scrolling script in action, I'm suddenly reminded of "Spiritual Warfare," an obscure(?) old NES game which was a Zelda-clone sort of thing that happened to be religiously themed (complete with Bible quiz mini-game to win extra money to buy items with.) It had ...

And then I go into the walkabouts and find three already there. All three are definitely pretty good (from Fnrrf's 8-bit graphics pack I think?) and thanks to their default palettes, look suitably distinct. Good for testing and stuff. They each have 7-color palettes and I'm not sure why...the first...

Probably the easiest feedback would be to make those icons appear either next to the monster's name when being aimed at or over the top of the sprite itself using the same icon, font color, and outline pixels they have on the heroes' HP bars. Just remembering "Okay, this is the mage that passe...

Focus Energy is similarly useless, as it actually divides by 4 and so doesn't ever get the chance to overflow. Ahhhh, I knew there was something broken about Focus Energy back then but for some reason I mis-remembered it as an overflow issue rather than the attack just being straight up programmed ...

Apparently stat-boosting/lowering in Pokémon have a kind of complicated formula. The lowest your stats can go is 25% of max, the highest they can go is 400% max, and you need to have six layers of boosting/lowering to get to either of those. A single Sand Attack lowers accuracy to around 66-67%, th...

It does seem like large parties pretty much inevitably end up with some characters just not really getting used, or only being used in parts of the game that require them. And generally when you have a dozen or more characters some of them are "wouldn't it be cool if..." type additions wit...

A trapezoid and a diagonal bar. If this is the one I'm thinking of, it's a broken shield (to go along with the broken sword, I imagine.) ...I also didn't realize the Bob head was in fact a Bob head for a loooong time, though for some reason my mind kept wanting to interpret it as some sort of skele...

My guess is that Shell would've been a magic defense boost, and Wall would reflect magic back at enemy casters -- that's what the spells of the same name did in the Final Fantasy games and FF4 has been mentioned as a major inspiration of early OHRRPGCE stuff. Though, those are the only two defense-b...
