The Pumpkin Warriors is reviewed! Next up is Dragons by Guroo. No idea what to expect from it, but I think it might be my last HOTOHR entry, so my votes might be coming soon. It's weird to have to start thinking of games in terms of points, I think it's a lot easier to review if you just talk about...

2014 In Review: The Pumpkin Warriors

This game describes itself as an alpha, and I'm going to try to keep that in mind in my review. The Pumpkin Warriors is Froginator's first game and so far it's quite ambitious. He's trying to channel that Earthbound kind of.. "four young dudes who take on some kinda supernatural bad guy" t...

I missed? I never miss! Galse wonders to himself, watching his would-be target run by unawares. I guess sometimes you're lucky to be unlucky.. what the hell was that?! A double sneak attack? Damned statues... but what's this? A proper weapon? Lucky to be unlucky indeed! He gives the statue a gratef...

No problem! A timer sounds like a great way to handle the problem.

I think your problem is the "wait for slice". That means the script is holding everything and waiting for the bullet to have moved before it does any other checks... and unfortunately once the bullet has moved, you're freeing its slice, never giving it a time to check.

Galse thrusts the food bag towards Thistlewhistle, puts a hand on his shoulder for emphasis, and shouts what could very well be his final instructions. "This bag contains THE most important thing if we're going to get out of this alive. Under no circumstance should you let it fall into the han...

I think most of the problem is in referring to the slices. So what I think you oughta do is take a step back and make sure you're getting that part right first. Using a number like "2" to refer to a slice is really dangerous because a slice's handle is like... Imagine you've got an empty n...

That's half the fun of the contest though, is people gettin a chance to prove themselves. So long as you can show up on time and do some work, there's no reason not to enter regardless of your skill level or the quality of your recent releases. If the goal was to make a "good game" there w...

I think your best bet is going to be using a song that fits into the 500 kilobyte size limit for a sound effect. Sound effects can be played once, you can wait for a sound to quit playing and then do something, etc. As far as I know, there's no way to play a "song" just one time, they loop...

Wow. Thanks for going easy on this game. I've been having kind of a rough time recently, and it's good to see that you didn't go all kamikaze on me. Just so you know, the game's incompleteness, mishpelungs, and overall stupidity is due to the fact that I made it for this jam , and I realized too la...

2014 In Review: Doom Tactics: Evil Unleashed

Well... this is not the review I expected to be writing. I thought I'd get to talk about how much had changed since the last time I reviewed it, or since the last time I helped playtest. Hell, maybe I'd even reach the end of the demo this time. Figure out how to turn the lights on in the hell that i...

2014 In Review: Iron Galaxy (Pre-Alpha)

This game identifies itself as a Pre-Alpha, and that's an accurate assessment. It makes critiquing it feel pointless. There's just enough content in the SD Giant Robot designs to make it feel like it belongs in the Reviewable Game category, but there's so little polish and effort that it doesn't fee...
