Hey guys, we need a cover artist for #57. We could also use an Old Ghosts type article from someone else if anyone wants to write one, that would be great. TheCube has submitted his retrospective on Missing, which begins a series he's working on about horror in OHR games. This dude's taking initiati...

Nope. Mine will be done in time for the deadline.

HamsterSpeak 56 Online

http://superwalrusland.com/ohr/issue56/cover.html

This December brings our slimmest HamsterSpeak yet, as most of the OHR community begins to hibernate. Lots of art, two Retrospectives from Willy E, and an article about the ghosts of old games past.

I think the attack and enemy editors badly need some 'template' features, such as marking one enemy as a variant as another and just making some modifications (and changes to the original would continue to be reflected to the variant). I'd be super happy just to be able to copy and paste all of an ...

It's hard to get most people in this community to contribute one review a year, let alone a week.

A list of finished games only would be like ten games long.

I like the comparison of this to The Hamster Wheel, which I was sad to see die.

I definitely agree with this.

On tags: The site should have a set of basic ones but allow users to submit anything they like. As the site grows, people will begin to use common groupings.

User submitted tags in addition to allowing a game's author to add/remove tags is a good idea. Some people will probably use this system to troll authors they don't like so have fun moderating it!

Also, if you do a rating system just do a simple thumbs up/down for users to click.

I like that the first person to respond after "I just don't think it's very new person friendly" is a new person who posts, makes games and contributes regularly. So anyone with any ideas of how to do that should not only share them but perhaps even do them themselves. Make a game worth pl...

All that matters is telling a story well, using or avoiding archetypes and common themes doesn't matter.

There's a reason Hero's Journey stories have been around for thousands of years. Writing one isn't bad. Writing a boring story is.

Also "World War II" is a setting, not a plot device.

Problem is this doesn't feel like a contest at all. So far I've learned: 8-bit is the only judge... He wants a RPG with puzzles but not including: Mazes Push NPC's. But with NO plotscripting?.. So exactly what kind of puzzle am I supposed to be formulating for him?... It'd be easy for me if I could...

Ugh, just what SS needs. More Drama. I know a way to solve this! It wouldn't be an OHR contest thread if no one was acting like an slime and then playing innocent. (Hint: Don't expect to be treated nicely in a contest thread if you start off by calling the contest terrible) I'm making a text advent...

That's kind of the point of the contest.

That wasn't a mistake. Hachi has provided me a lot of valuable services over the years and it is a delight to pay him back with a delicious subway sub. Back when it was posters he had agreed to show us pictures of the art which is all I really wanted from the posters for the time being and he'd get...

Only pointless because I was smart enough not to trust RMZ with my information in the first place. Had anyone else come in third place, they wouldn't have done so and their position would be no less frightening than the one I illustrated. You should probably never enter any contests that aren't run...
