I don't know why you mentioned used a zone... you're using an map autorun on multiple maps? Don't you have to set an NPC's obstruction value manually, both true and false? I thought switching maps doesn't change the obstruction state of that particular NPC. If the NPC's obstruction resets when I le...

Okay, I thought more about what you were saying regarding suspending NPC obstruction and realized that if I place a touch NPC (or a use NPC, which probably makes more sense in retrospect) on top of a step-on NPC and use a zone to determine whether the touch NPC should be obstructed or not (I can't l...

Okay, I had a feeling I would need to better explain what I'm talking about. The contact lens does use the workaround system, and I find that it's okay because you can only interact with it once. The likelihood of facing the wrong direction is still lame, but I don't see it being a common problem. B...

NPC Activation Checks and Displaying Items in Battles

Okay, as the header suggests, I have two questions: 1. Is there some efficient way to give NPCs multipurpose activation, or to check how an NPC has been activated? I have a couple of locations in my game where the NPC should allow for at least two types of activation, and the hero's response depends...

Just wanted to chime in real quick about next year's Heart of the OHR. As many of you know, we had an entry that did not meet the RPG requirements the contest establishes, but did embody the "spirit of the heart of the OHR," or simply "the spirit of the OHR," so I allowed it, and...

Ghost's Towns Video Playthrough and Review

Two nights ago, I plugged in my microphone, fired up my CamStudio recorder, and embarked on an epic quest to give the Wobbler real-time feedback of my impressions of his game, Ghost's Towns . That journey yielded seven consecutive 20-minute videos that explores the fidelity of memory, the joys of re...

When Willy was asking for people to playtest Void Crypt, I thought it would be helpful to actually record my playthrough, so I did, and I had fun doing it, and it gave him some ideas for improvement. I could probably do the same thing for Ghost's Towns if you'd like. Might be more helpful to get rea...

@pepsi: Why would I emulate other games to appear less generic? I don't think you should emulate them (and I don't see where that was implied). I was suggesting you add little touches like "sponginess" or whatever to show that you're paying attention to details (which some people like to ...

Spoon, I meant to say this in the other thread (graphics thread?), but since the conversation's more active here, and since this might help your game's commercial appeal a bit more, I think adding even subtle touches like "spongier" mushroom platforms (they ripple when Tim-Tim lands on the...

Sorry I didn't get a chance to review anything this year. I had planned on reviewing the Heart of the OHR games, but my plate was too full this round. I'll have to get to them on my own time. 1. Selection thread process could maybe be changed to an "Opt-Out" thread, and simultaneously a &q...

I didn't find it 100% clear that "it requires two switches to lower or raise a gate" means that you can turn off one switch after raising a gate without effect. Maybe stating "both switches on are required to raise a gate or both off to lower it". It would actually be really nea...

The part in the explanation of the puzzle about the two way cell didn't make much sense to me. I think it would make a more sense after you see it or what problem it's needed, and I wonder whether it's actually necessary to explain it, or to explain it at that point. The two-way cell is more for st...

So, to follow up with my last post (immediately above), I thought I'd show you guys a video of my latest addition to The Adventures of Powerstick Man: Extended Edition in action. Now, before you assume the gameplay is just a simple matter of walking through a map (specifically the one I posted above...

You're thinking of Lolsidothaldremobine, aka my favorite old OHR game. That was one of the few games from the old days that I still wish had been finished. Would probably be even more awesome if it were updated with today's OHR technology.
