It's a little hacky, but you could set a tag called "equip locked on hero" or something like that, then "force equip" (plotscripting dictionary will tell you all about that command) the hero with that item with every step the tag is set. You can "unlock" the equipment b...

Although I like the idea of teaching people about working on the engine, but I have absolutely no idea how that could be structured as a contest. I have no idea, either. I'd just like to see more people learn how to help you guys. I'd learn, too, if I wasn't so overloaded with things to do. Maybe i...

Mogri, that's an awesome use of the battle screen. Well done. Your suggestions make me wonder if having an optional choice box activate during a specific caption would be a good idea (with the following attack or defense being a result), kind of like rewarding or punishing taunts, for example. I'll ...

Even though this wouldn't get much more traction than the original idea, one way that a contest about finishing someone else's game could work is if you turned it into a remake of the other person's game contest, in that they get to start from scratch using the other person's general idea. You'd sti...

Just a quick bump to see how many of you have started working on a new grand adventure that may or may not take an hour or so to finish. Don't forget to hype.

Okay, here's my presentation (in the same thread after all): Using Scrivener for Game Design Recently, I’ve ported my design journal into a writing and organization program called Scrivener. If you don’t know what Scrivener is, it’s a project-based design tool that keeps all of your documents, web l...

I'm not 100% sure what the expected result should look like. More like an rpg or like a text adventure? The type of adventure you create is up to you. My vision is a traditional OHR style game (minus the battles, or with, doesn't matter) that involves exploration, puzzle-solving, and interactive ob...

End of July sounds like a reasonable deadline. Whatever it ends up being, it won't be the end of June. I'd like to see quality entries, nothing rushed. Probably won't stretch past August, though. We'll see.

Sounds awesome! Is it okay to submit multiple entries? I really wanna give this a go, it sounds like great fun! EDIT: Is it okay to include gameplay mechanics from various genres? Such as mini-games or stats? Yes to all. The main requirement is that it fits in the adventure genre (graphic, text, ma...

Flavor Text Adventure Contest

Flavor Text Adventure Contest I also remember making a game with a town called "Biggiefries" (...that's basically all I remember of this one, I don't think I got much of this one done) and one with Yoshi in it, but I don't remember anything about it aside from being able to accidentally b...

My first real attempt at game design on the computer was with Duke Nukem 3D's Build engine. In 1997, I spent about eight months off and on working on a massive battle map built for exploration, hidey-holes, environmental backstabbing, and space-jumping loop-backs, to name some factors. It was crash-...

Review of C.Kane

This review was originally posted on Steam, under my alt-name, zippywings. Porting it here for all of the fanboys (and for the 2016 Review Contest): Much can be argued about what makes an RPG an RPG, whether it's story-rich, battle-heavy, or fit with a cast of essentric characters (who all somehow g...

Text import needs to (or should) implement word wrapping on import, now that textboxes can internally accept it when writing in the editor. This will make creating templates for textboxes in various word processors easier.

More news I'm happy to see. Would be really awesome if caterpillar parties could also obey pixel movements of the leader. Perfect for when ramps and other elevation changes are used.
