Am I the only person who sees this contest as an excuse to get James to design more core features into the engine over the course of the next few months? Brilliant strategy, 8-bit, but I'm on to your plan. ;) Consequently, I agree with it. I make no promise to enter, though. Trying to stick to my wr...

Hey Willy, just wanted to reiterate if you haven't noticed it already that the list gives only the dates when a game was last uploaded, not when it was first uploaded. Might be important to remember.

A note to Willy Electrix, and anyone else who does a retrospective on an old game: Most of the games on CP dated Feb. 2, 2003 were ports from Operation: OHR and are in fact older than 2003. I'm pretty sure The Adventures of Bill was released in 2001 or 2002. Unfortunately, there is no record of when...

If you were making a game for this special event, then you may want to consider wrapping it up, as it will officially close in just a few hours.

Well, the rule is to have fun with it. I'm treating it less like a contest and more like an excuse for the community to release some similarly themed games at about the same time as one another. I probably won't even have a vote unless more than three people post something between now and November 3...

I don't usually reply to posts regarding graphical praise, but I gotta say those doors set the high bar for graphics worth aspiring to. I especially like the one that's open, showing off the degrees of light on that dirty floor. Really cool. I like it when people actually care about their work.

Four Days of Halloween

Impromptu contest, starting now. No rules. No prizes. Just glory and a deadline: November 1st (time doesn't matter). Sorry, one rule: 1. Make it fun (and try to keep it holiday-centric, but it's okay if it goes off the rails a little, or goes onto another holiday entirely...do what you want with it)...

Zone Discoveries

In conjunction with the article "Zoned In, Part 2" posted in this month's HamsterSpeak , I wanted to open up a discussion about the various uses that we, as a community, have given to zone maps in our games. The uses discussed can be minor and obvious, or tricky and surprising, but regardl...

The contest window for Heart of the OHR 2012 will be between June 1st and November 30th. Bugfixing period will take up half of December. You should have plenty of time to get it ready by then. I'm actually gonna try to have my game finished in that window; though, I predicted to have it finished way...

Well, if it does take you a year to update it, don't forget that we'll probably be smack dab in the middle of Heart of the OHR 2012: Spoonweaver's Subtitle by then. Might be incentive to simultaneously rush it and hold off on releasing it. On a semirelated note, for some reason I feel compelled to u...

This is the kind of game that I created the Heart of the OHR contest for. Great old school mechanics wrapped up in a professional tone. I confess that I had no interest in it years ago when it was still a demo, and I suppose that's a good thing now, since back then it was just a demo and I probably ...

If you're using numbers, you might be better off using "number from string." This command reads numbers the way that "input string" reads words, except that you're storing the number directly into a variable. input string (4,3,true,false,195,175) youranswer &#...

Fnnrf: So glad you're past your mapping barrier that held you back from making that game for so long. Looks nice, certainly, but here's to hoping that it plays nice, too (but not too nice). Nathan: I don't care which enemies you get rid of, as long as you keep the Underground Monkey. Put a good back...

For anyone interested, I did repost Monster Out of Six with the cell door fix. It doesn't change the fact that it is still highly incomplete and mostly empty (I spent most of the time working on the NPC generation scripts, so actual map design suffered this round). But at least you can "free&qu...
