OK, figured it out. In Gimp, first open a 8 bit BMP exported from your game, so that it uses the master palette you're using. Then in the Image->Mode->Indexed menu, select 'Use Custom Palette', and click the little palette icon. At the top of the list of palettes will be "Colormap of Image #? (...

I assume this was inspired by the Assemblee contest? It's a nice idea. There's a good chance I'll take part. Particularly since contributing graphics is very non-committal. I think voting on the graphics (as Assemblee did) is would have been too much trouble. Could you clarify what the acceptable te...

To upgrade you can just overwrite custom.exe, game.exe, etc. To backup your game just copy your .rpg file (and any scripts or other files you've created) elsewhere. Note that there's absolutely no need to keep the .rpg file in the same folder as custom.exe (although it's created there by default).

'Weapon' appears twice, that's the problem. The bottom option is normally "Items". I assume you changed it accidentally, but if you're sure you didn't, then it's possible that it's an engine bug.

Did you edit the hero's battle menu? Did you give the hero any spell lists (that is, put spells in them)?

Oh, that's too bad. Bell of Chaos' Persian graphical style and mechanics were really unique and wonderful (and noisy).

So that's my answer to this thread's question

Nice sprites! I think I'll refer back to those as examples of effective shading style. When I try to shade something I usually get carried away.

I'm... a bit confused by this image. What's that thing in the centre of your pizza? You piled all the toppings in the middle and left half the base untopped?

I'm using Gimp 2.8, and Export/Export As is in the File menu. Saving and exporting are separate options. To export as a .bmp file, just use a filename ending in .bmp. (The format called "Windows BMP Image" which is probably why you missed it in the list.) You only need to convert to the pa...

It sounds like you might be trying to fade out the map but not the textbox. Unforuntately you can't really do that, screen fades fade out everything. (You would have to use separate parts of the master palette for the textbox and the map and manipulate the palette manually) Double check that the ene...

Rinku's list (linked from that wiki page) is the oldest list of games still around. It's very hard to find other games released before 2000. That link to Bahamut RPG community is also pretty good for old games.

Quite a few games that are on Op:OHR have also been copied over to CP's main list.

Gimp certainly does export bmp files. Note that: -version Beelzebufo has trouble importing 24 bit bmps exported by Gimp and a number of other programs. This is fixed in nightly builds -it's best to convert your bmp to the same palette as your master palette. Custom's remapping to the master palette ...

I haven't been on either server for a couple of weeks. Last time I was on, I explored Wallachia and built a house nearby. Gosh that place is huge. I got so lost that it took me about half an hour just to find the perimeter wall! Probably should have built my house inside instead. You could ask IM wh...
