There are languages where closing quotes at the end of a line are optional (IIRC early versions of FreeBasic; now it prints a warning), but if left off in the middle of a line it can't be made sense of.

Re: Map Tile Animation

If you dedicate an entire tileset, you can cycle through the whole tileset with just a "right 1, wait 1" animation. Super Penguin Chef does this in the Chickendome dungeon for the green scanline in the background, and Timpoline does it in the EX levels for the "tortured souls" b...

Looking at the Game Design forum, it seems to me that a majority of threads are those asking questions, so I'm not sure what the scope actually should be. Is it basically a successor to the HelpMe board from 15 years ago? If so a majority of threads really would belong there, including, eg, ones abo...

This is tangential to what you talked about, but... Projects always grow in scope as time goes on. That's one reason to start with a plan for a small game. If a project keeps growing then you'll never finish it. Having lots of ideas allows you to pick the best ones and cut the rest, don't try to put...

Wow, that error message is quite unexpected. 32 bit installers should work on a 64 bit Windows version. Urkelbot, what version of Windows do you have?

I actually find the scoring rubric quite helpful and will be roughly following it (following it closely would be too restrictive).

Oh, I got distracted by moving house, and didn't even have my computer for most of a week. Have a bunch of stuff to catch up on now. I agree that while it works, it needs polish and documentation. The INTERNET permission is only needed if the game data files are downloaded from an external source. A...

Hmm, OK. That makes sense. However, if you try opening it with an older version you should usually get a warning message saying that corruption might occur as a result. But sometimes we forget to increase version number and there won't be a message. If you're lucky there won't be any permanent damag...

It was corrupted? We care very much about preventing that from happening. Did this happen after Custom crashed or you force-closed it?

Could you please email me the corrupted game? I'd like to see what went wrong and how we can prevent it from happening again.

Welcome! I'm very surprised that you had trouble with messages like "HSpeak missing". That message is meant to be impossible to receive on Macs since the Mac app bundle contain HSpeak and everything else needed. What did you do to fix it? Are you using the latest stable version, or a night...

Sorry. Moving house has been an ordeal. It's taken me 5 days just to find the time to set up my computer again. So I only have scores for 4 games so far. Since you're extending the deadline again I guess I really will have time to play some of the other games afterall.

I looked into this. It turns out that that script used as an on-key-press script works correctly for arrow keys, but not A/S/D/W, because holding down an arrow key (or use or cancel) causes the on-keypress script to be continually triggered each tick, while holding down other keys causes the on-keyp...

I happen to be moving house this week but should nonetheless have time to play a few games, so expect vote on most of them by the weekend.

Yikes! That's definitely a release blocker. I'll try to remember to look into it when I have time.

Chronoboy and I spent last night on this and found that there were still a number of things that were broken, but in the end I managed to package a working .apk for a game other than Walthros. The biggest problem was that the sdl1.2-android build system patches Globals.java according to AndroidAppSe...

Was that 'fading away' cover drawn after HS had already shut up shop? Well, there have been a few efforts since HS to start something new, which have bombed. With the exception of The Hamster Wheel , of course. Which now has published a few reviews from Pepsi. Depending on what MBS wants to do with ...
