I guess you could draw box borders externally, but the way the edge pieces are places has a number of quirks (especially for very small boxes; smaller than textboxes), so a real preview in the sprite editor is needed. I started adding it, but got distracted...

Yes! One way walls are fully implemented (with the exception that they don't work with the map editor tools like Box and Paint yet). Yes, when there's no weapon equipped, the hero's Default Weapon is shown in the Weapon slot instead. You can't unequip it as it doesn't actually exist.
