The worst thing about the internet is that it opens up access to do dang many wonderful forms of entertainment. For example, I have spend almost the entire weekend reading <a href="http://www.airshipentertainment.com/buckcomic.php">Buck Godot: Zap Gun For Hire</a>, and thing which, as of F...

James's Slovenian Text Adventure!

James's Slovenian Text Adventure!* (*Contains 0% actual Slovenia) Sometime around 1997, I spent the weekend visiting my parents, and having only a 386 DOS computer to entertain myself with in the evening, I hacked together this simple text adventure featuring 14 glorious locations and no plot whatso...

I am of the opinion that once something has been uploaded, it is a waste of energy to try and stop people from hosting copies of the file elsewhere. Personally, I would never write a nasty letter to any of the myriad of sides that host copies of my programs and games unless one of them actually alte...

If Steve's flame is smaller then he will be to easy because then I could just camp on the side-platforms and hop up and hit-and-run him. For the big slime spawning small slimes, it sounds like you need to give the small slimes an instant of invulnerability, similar to what Tim-Tim gets right after h...

Ooh, you know what I would love? To be able to play this with my gamepad. This is actually really easy to do, since there are fake scancode constants for <b>keyval()</b> and <b>key is pressed()</b> to check gamepad buttons too. #keys >= 128 are NOT scan codes, per se, but for other devices &#40;...

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I am so proud of myself that I just had to post it somewhere! I finally endured Marathon mode all the way to the end, getting a PPM over 3000, and enjoying most of the first couple chapters of <i>The Innocents Abroad</i> <img src="http://gilgamesh.hamsterrepub...

Can I make a suggestion about Steve? (who I still haven't beaten) What if his turning remained random, but you made it so that after turning he would wait X number of ticks before he could randomly turn again. That way his motion would remain random, but it would not be quite as random as it is curr...

That dinosaur! That dinosaur! I just can't beat him! I still haven't even gotten him below half life. I sketched out this simple diagram that I hope will illustrate the problem that I am having with him: <img src="http://gilgamesh.hamsterrepublic.com/albums/Misc/Tim_Tim_Oh_the_Gnomanity.jpg&quo...

Thanks for the review! I thought I should answer a couple questions raised in the review. Doing a little editing (which is simple, you need only edit a text file.) I changed the words that needed to be spelled, and I've gotta say I was very surprised to find that there were pictures for some of the ...

Wow! Interesting! I never new it was possible to put MP3 encoded data in WAV containers. (although I guess technically a WAV container is a RIFF container, which is a generic container format that could contain any dang crazy thing) I was not able to find any WAV playing programs that could play tha...

2 second sound effect. 168K in the original format from SFXR 84.2K when Audacity saves as a 8-bit WAV 63.2K as a quality 10 OGG 20K as a quality 0 OGG 7.99K when sndrec32.exe saves in my low-quality WAV format Wow! That is pretty amazing. Can you mail me one of these ultra-small WAV files? I would ...

Dude, if I need quality later, for like voices or something, then yeah, I'll probably put OGGs in it. For EXTREMELY short sound effects, like blips and bleeps less than half a second, then yes, a WAV is your best bet.. ..but once your effect is at least a second or longer, then using OGG will alway...

Another thing you can do in audacity to get the file-size smaller is to go to the "Tracks" menu, and choose "Stereo to Mono". You mentioned that you didn't want to use the OGG extension for Game Maker because you want to use some effects. Can you just do the sounds that need effe...

I would kindly ask everyone else I've talked to about this on the Internet to stop treating me like I'm retarded for using a stable release instead of a beta. Sorry :) I guess in the minds of some developers "stable" means "old" and "unstable" means "has bugfixes ...
