I figured out how to do my own automated mirroring of clanforge's automated backups. See http://mirror.motherhamster.org/minecraft/ The backups are in tar.gz format, and it will download a new one automatically once a week (on sunday) http://mirror.motherhamster.org/minecraft/world.tar.gz will alway...

I downloaded a backup, loaded it in MCEdit, and deleted all the chunks in an area I wanted to spawn. Then I played in single-player and ran over to that location, and discovered a vast terrifying rectangular bottomless pit. I had deleted all the BLOCKS in the those chunks, but not the chunks themsel...

coords of the dungeon is -807, 35.7, 324 . It's beneath a lake, but if you dig straight down it'll put you right into the portal chamber. Cool! If you get a chance before I do, could you put up some signs in the area warning that the chunk deleting gods plan to nuke the area from orbit soon, so nob...

Using the same seed in simple player is a great idea! Anybody who wants to could test that, since the seed is easy to get from the F3 debug screen. Be aware that probably almost everything will look different because all of the terrain near the origin was generated in 1.8beta -- but the expected coo...

Here is another thought about the stronghold areas. I could try downloading a backup copy of the map, open it in a map editor, and then delete the region around one of those zones. I think the north-east one of the three has nothing built over it. Deleting that region should cause it to be regenerat...

I was furious when I heard that Jeb had decided that people would have to start a new world to get new features. I am sure he didn't think that decision out. I hope he will reverse himself before the 1.2 release. The good news is that clever people have already discovered a workaround! http://www.re...

Yes, I actually was attacked by and killed a silverfish when you were giving us the tour of the stronghold right after the Quest for the Holy Mooshrooms. There is no silverfish spawner in there, but some of the stone blocks have silverfish hiding in them. I woke it up because I was mining through th...

Durring the last betas right before version 1.0 was released, Jeb said on his twitter that he had raised the number of Strongholds from 3 per map to infinite. However, Mod authors who have reverse-engineered the 1.0 and 1.1 source code have concluded that he never actually made that change, and stro...

I am happy to share any of my items except my coveted Map Stash (and even those I will lend out if they are returned) I am trying to make a point of labelling all my treasure chests with signs that say if it is okay to plunder them Anyway, tonight I witnessed the very end of a mighty quest. four gre...

Nice! And my hosting company already upgraded the server to 1.1 I remember noticing the mangled treehouse. I like to imagine that five or six creepers chased somebody up the ladder, but I guess the lightening theory is most plausible. I wonder if somebody took Shizuma's record without realizing how ...
