Non-spoiling answer: That's the other hardest puzzle in the game. The difficulty is mitigated by the fact that you only have one item to choose from. There's very little plotscripting involved in the game. Primarily the scripting is just to figure out if there's, for example, a tree in front of the player. The bulk of the work is done with tags.
