Incidentally, I found a bug in the AI code while cleaning up unused variables (which warning messages HSPEAK now suppresses by default -- what's up with that?), namely that the AI was ignoring support units' damage when deciding whom to attack. This is kind of a relief, actually, since the AI was ma...

Yeah, see, the problem is he doesn't look right in bright red, either.

Big stat rebalance time! If I do release the game episodically, that means I need to have stats straightened out before the first release. I made the second-tier classes have higher base stats, and now I'm gonna go back and do it again. Now the advanced classes start out with an average of about 5 m...

It occurs to me that I haven't implemented the level-up system. A character can spawn at a higher level, but he'll never gain levels right now -- his XP will reset to 0 when it reaches 100 without anything happening. So that's next on my list. The only really tricky part about this is putting togeth...

Basically, slices are like a way of putting graphics on the screen. You can use them to put enemy graphics, attack graphics, empty text boxes, etc. anywhere you want on the screen. When they first came out in the nightly I used them to put this together using only slices and menus (don't plan on fi...

i think all 'major features' like battle systems etc. should be in in order to call a game complete. but that doesn't mean everything planned has to be in, just that the game has reached 'v1.0' state and has things like a title screen, ending, credits, all levels, etc. Careful there, "v1.0&quo...

Where am I at? Let me tell you where I am at. With the first battle out of the way, I need to develop a reasonable framework for the game. There are several things to keep in mind here: - The player will be able to save between battles. The game needs to know what to do when it starts up from a save...

This is not a complicated term. If it's a finished game -- if the player can play from the beginning to the end -- then it's complete. You know what these words mean.

I don't think I have the original file anymore, so I may have to make a new demo from scratch and try to release it some time before the finished game.
:o

Biggest surprise of the contest right here, folks!

That's true, but going from 4 stars to 5 is still much more of an improvement than going from 1 to 3.

I see. Unfortunately, all of the data for that entry is missing. I've contacted Aeth (the last person to maintain Op:OHR) to see if he has a backup copy.

Do you happen to remember the filename?

Re: Wendel (aka ANOTHER Dev. Journal)

For James' "Finish Your Dang Game Contest" (which is an awesome idea by the way), I plan on remaking my very first OHRRPGCE game, Wendel's Quest for the Sacred Stones. I started it in the late 90s and released a half-butt demo of it a few years and a half a million remakes after that. Qui...

Oops, no. It does include dead heroes. But it ignores empty slots... which saves you, uh, not really a whole lot of trouble in this instance.
