Vire hisses.
Vire wrote:I saw what I saw. I say we kill him now -- we avenge Echo -- and we cut our losses. I bet we can get some good money for that ox.

Vire stares slackjawed at Gregor momentarily, then turns to Ehaism.
Vire wrote:Something's not right. Let's check out the cave and see if the elf's corpse is in there.

Vire is shocked -- not by Gregor's death so much as the elf's murder. He weighs his options and decides that while he could probably kill the elf, he's better off warning the others. They might be able to subdue and interrogate her. Vire summons a fiendish monstrous scorpion and commands it to attac...

I think that's about right. Portraits in text can be distracting, and if you don't have them for every single NPC, you are basically putting a sign in front of the player saying, "This person is important to the story because he or she has a picture!"

Vire reluctantly enters the cave. His low-light vision is excellent, so he's not concerned about the darkness, but he'd still rather not get caught alone. He stations Liev at the entrance to the cave -- she's not as good in the dark anyway -- and journeys inward. If he can't detect the elf's thought...

Vire, ever-wary of the elf, casts Detect Thoughts. He trails the elf to the cave, careful to keep within range of the spell but also to avoid detection.

You could use custom menus to do this. It's very complicated, though, and would take a lot of effort. I disagree. There's an easy way to do this with custom menus: put the textbox IDs into the menu item extras. while(menu is open(shop menu)) do ( show text bo...

You have gun vending machines? That may be the worst idea ever conceived of by man.

Anyway, Spoonweaver's diagram was spot on. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do with your vending machines.

You pretty much covered the options. One other suggestion, though: have the items on display at the shop and allow the player to examine them. This adds flavor as well as allowing you to display as much info as you want. You can also use the NPC-tells-you-about-stuff approach, but that always seemed...

Nope, it's a game that I started on a couple days ago. You know how dwarves get into a strange mood and start crafting stuff? I do the same thing.

I am not aware of having gone crazy to date.

The game is on a quick production schedule and might be done before December.

Using globals. The replays will be saved into saveslots, but they aren't actually put there while you're playing -- just into globals.

The trick? I'm only logging keystrokes, and the game is deterministic otherwise. The playback just pretends that it's receiving those keystrokes from the player.

Ah. Well, the maps don't change size, but most of the cells are empty anyway, so I'm not sure that would be advantageous. There is also one other piece of technology that might interest you: an instant replay feature. I'm planning on allowing the player to save replays for later viewing. The current...
