Re: Let's learn Godot together

Ah, yes, there's nothing sketchy about the game engine made by a group of people with documented ties to the Chinese government./s In seriousness, is there an engine that isn't sketchy in some way these days? Unity just tried to screw over developers horribly, which is an absolutely terrible sign fo...

Re: Let's learn Godot together

OK, so If I run the scene , it works just fine. If I run the game , I get your error. This is because you have the same script attached to label.tscn, which is your Main Scene. It's a Sprite2D as well, but it doesn't have a Timer child. You aren't actually using label.tscn for anything, as far as I...

Re: Let's learn Godot together

I'll include the zip anyway, but the error is: E 0:00:00:0580 sprite2d.gd:8 @ _ready(): Node not found: "Timer" (relative to "/root/Sprite2D"). <C++ Error> Method/function failed. Returning: nullptr <C++ Source> scene/main/node.cpp:1626 @ get_node() <Stack Trace> sprite2d.gd:8 @ ...

Re: Let's learn Godot together

Mogri wrote: Sun Oct 22, 2023 3:38 pm And your script is attached to the Sprite2D, right? Not the root Node2D?
Yes, it's the child of Sprite 2D. There should be an image in this post of how it's set up.

Re: Let's learn Godot together

I don't see get_node("Timer") anywhere within the tutorial. (By the way, $ is shorthand for get_node, so $Timer would do the same thing.) Where are you calling this from? Does the node for this script have a child named Timer? This bit here in the using signals tutorial, the Node.get_node...

Re: Let's learn Godot together

No, I didn't have any such issue. Which step is that? Do you mean the get_node function in GDScript or something else? Yeah, for some reason that get_node("Timer") isn't working no matter what I try to do. It doesn't seem to be linking up properly, it just spits out an error saying it can...

Re: Let's learn Godot together

I got as far as the signals section before I apparently got into a bizarre glitch, not a good sign. When it tries to use the Get Node to link to the timer it just won't register a link. I don't see how I could do something wrong. It has the name, Timer, it's supposed to, as does the script. I even c...

Re: Let's learn Godot together

I've actually been meaning to try out Godot, less for the 2D stuff and more for the 3D stuff. Still interested though.

Shanghai Knights (2003) 7/10 A very strange Jackie Chan film and the sequel to Shanghai Noon. The premise of the original film was that Chan was in a western, with Owen Wilson as his idiotic sidekick. The premise of this one is that now they're in England...because Jackie, or I should say Chon Wang'...

House (1977) 9/10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tcSn1iGt0U A bizarre and psychedelic Japanese haunted house film. Seven Japanese schoolgirls go to one of their aunt's mansion, who turns out to be a witch. Describing the film's plot is quite easy, but describing what happens is a bit harder. Call...

The Beyond (1981) 5/10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC2q23WFDEQ Another movie I'm really just seeing because there's a game based off it. Only, the adaptation of it is an unlicensed text adventure. I'm not really a gore hound, though I did like Black Cat. This is Lucio Fulci's attempt at making ...

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (2010) 4/10 "Adaptation" of the classic Italian comic book. "Adaptation", since the only thing it has in common with the series is the name of the main character, that he uses a revolver, has a sidekick and there are zombies. Well, what I've read of the ...

Sweet Home (1989) 6/10 In preparation for playing the game Sweet Home, I decided to try out the film it was based off of. Well, kind of based off of. Apparently that's some sort of point of contention. Anyway, this is one of the few movies with a video game adaptation better known than it. The plot...

Dawn of the Dead (1978) 10/10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4Xw_7BUXic Romero's iconic film about 4 people trying to survive in the face of a zombie apocalypse. Re: Hamster People Movie Place

Titus, huh? Not necessarily against *that*, I like the films of Meiko Kaji, but the supposed brutality of it makes me a bit squeamish. That said, I do seem to be accidentally only watching Shakespeare films starring Olivier, since I also saw his Richard III some years ago. Have been meaning to try t...
