The timer was triggering a script that called "fade screen in"?
I see a lot of people trip over problems with multiple interacting scripts. Really need better debugging tools than the script logger.

The timer was part of the map's auto run script and was writing some map blocks in a loop for animation (I just replaced all of it with transparency layers and it looks better now), the Fade Screen script was triggered by talking to an NPC.
Edit: An updated demo is now available! This update fixes some bugs, alters a few graphics, and makes changes to the autosave system.
Demo V1.61 June 22 2020:
-Autosave now runs after every battle and each chest you open in addition to using doors.
-Redrew all rabbit NPCs.
-Updated all frog NPCs.
-Updated shadow effects in Blue Shrine exterior.
-Fixed some visual glitches during cutscenes in Burger Frog.
-Fixed glitches with apartment decorations not appearing.
-Fixed a glitch with Alana’s Dull skill chaining incorrectly.
-Fixed a couple of missing wallmaps.
-Fixed a respawning enemy bug in Bayswater Woods when entering from east side.

And of course instead of finishing that I went and worked on something else.
After Salom joins the party, Bob can borrow his phone to call buddies and check in. Make sure you've got a good signal before calling!

Hello people, I'm posting stuff. I'm sticking to this thread and the Feature Request thread though.
World map's complete! A handful of cities are still placeholders but here we are, Walthros' completed Odobenus Archipelago.
In comparison here's the final map from the original game too. Many of the areas are similarly shaped in the new game. Rodentia (east side) is the most changed in both shape and story role.
Also: Let's Talk Glob.
A tough but essential part of any storytelling is knowing when something needs to be cut. We say goodbye to Glob, the rocket-powered worm playable in the original Walthros.
The final act of Walthros: Renewal diverges heavily from the original and Glob's story no longer fit. I was planning to design a extensive city where you'd meet him, but I realized that I was only doing this because it was in the original.
Glob's story doesn't really fit the thematic structure of the rest of the game, and his story would slow the plot to a crawl right when it should be building to a climax. He'll still show up in a cameo at the Coliseum, where other abandoned ideas dwell.
The original game had 18 permanent heroes and it was very unwieldy to juggle them all. 10 were removed from the playable roster and 2 more were changed to temporary characters. 4 new characters were added, bringing us to 10 total permanent heroes.
Basically: Playing the original game from 1998-2002 won't really spoil anything for people playing Renewal. If you've played the original, thank you! You're in for a very different ride this time.
