New world map looks terrific. The contrast in the original's blue is so blinding! I like the shape of your level and I like that the game takes place in a part of Walthros and not the entire planet. It's very Avatar of you.

This looks awesome, original Walthros was one of my favorite OHR games. It might even inspire me to download the new version and play with all the new (to me) features.

Thanks, it's been a long time! I hope the new game can live up to expectations.

I've started using Adobe Illustrator for the first time so I can make some promotional art to put on the game's Steam page/press kits. I've got a lot to learn but it's fun!

Pro Tip: I've become a huge fan of this company since I've discovered them last April, so I've been telling anyone I think would benefit from using their products: Look up Affinity Designer. It's basically Adobe Illustrator without the subscription fee. One of these days I'm going to teach myself how to use it well, but you can already see my test version in the Heart of the OHR trailer (Bob's head was made in Designer--and it would look much better if I were a competent vector artist).

That said, the penguin looks great.

Here we see Salom with his mother, Linn, and Bob with his parents Henk and Borbora.
I've owned a copy of Illustrator for years as part of Adobe's student software pack, I just never used it until now. I use Photoshop almost daily, so I like having an interface I'm already more or less used to.

Family plays a huge role in this game; our parents, our partners, loved ones present and those gone, and the family bonds that form among friends.

I'm setting up equipment and variables for the game's next playable hero. It's a tedious process to build, but it's painless for players!

Snails are very rarely seen in the parts of the world that Walthros: Renewl is set in; these dudes don't travel much.
Some updates and dudes.

Mini Melts
I don't like it when games feature difficulty levels that amount to "More HP for enemies, less for you." For this game I want enemy behavior to feel different between the three difficulty levels. Read on for how Melters behave across them!

Story Mode: Melters attack using basic fire attacks, easily countered by gear you can buy.

Standard Mode: The Melter gains a Heat Wave attack that debuffs defense for the whole party. This makes Melters the priority target in battles that feature multiple enemies.

Fish Frenzy: The game's hardest difficulty level. Melters in Fish Frenzy mode spawn two smaller, cuddlier Mini Melts on defeat. They're still dangerous but they can't debuff you. Do you prioritize taking out all the Melters first, or deal with the Minis before there are too many?

Difficulty level can be freely changed at any inn or resting spot throughout the game.

Finishing up some battle balancing and working on enemy sprites for the next dungeon. I've got a big cutscene to work on that will take a while so this is a smaller task to finish up first.

Benny, a beluga. Possibly the only beluga in the game. Maybe one of many.

Some things aren't meant to be seen. You'll be repelled from certain areas until the time is right.

Red Shrine is totally done and I'm off to the next area. Here's a look at a transparency tile test.

I'm using public domain whale sounds for background ambience in this area of Walthros: Renewal. I'm very happy with the sound design for this area in general, there are cracking ice sounds as the screen ices over.

This game looks like it has a very zany and unique cast of characters. I kind of wish there was more of that in this world, and it makes me want to play your game. I'll give it a download sometime soon and tell you what I think.

Also Grape is in this game? I'm assuming it's the same grape that was in OHRodents, which was my first exposure to this program.

Thanks! Grape was a playable hero in the original Walthros. This time around, he's a supporting character in the plot but not playable. The original game's playable cast was too big and balancing them all was messy, so the new one cuts down to essential character types, but most of the old ones still appear in some way.

Is there a list of playable characters? Cuz I'm seeing pictures with walruses, a capybara, and some other cool animals, Plus while playing the game I came across Malayan tapir selling rugs, and I'm wondering how many of those cool animals are playable. The front page mentions four character is, including a seal, a frog and a goose. Those are... Okay, I guess, but it would be cool if there was something more exotic playable.
