I uploaded the newer copy of Start Dartle 2000 with sources for weapon upgrades.

So, are you actually expecting to finish the game, or just handing over some more work? The game looks fun!

Nah, just handing over more work.

I would still be thrilled if somebody else took it over.

I might still post some other updates, but I don't want that to discourage anybody else from working on it (and if somebody else does take it over, and I find time to do more, I will gladly work adding to your copy, rather than my own copy)

The game isn't really playable aside from fucking around but it's all I have until the 1st, because I got nothing done on it tonight and I have plans for tomorrow night. I'll upload it tomorrow or something.

Hopefully I can get another month or so to finish the game, otherwise it'll be pretty crap.

How could you abuse a sheep's intestines so bad that wizard college kicks you out? This guy must be very evil indeed!
Trytuges0051.png
I'm still working on the game.
If I can get meaningful contact from any of the apartments I've started messaging, I should be able to make something resembling the intended plan for Trytuges before the playtesting phase is finished.

Sitting on edge and trying to move...since September...has been the main thing hindering my progress. I simply have more important things to worry about than making this game, even though I really do want to see this project to fruition.

Yes, I was going to say: we need Nathan's game in this as well.
You misspelt Adventurers in that screenshot.

Also, I when it comes to the randomisation of item positions, are there certain locations that they're more likely to be? I thought I found the axe several times in the shed. Now hat I replay the game several times the randomisation, together with playing on a harder difficulty does make it more interesting.

Certain items have fewer locations than others, but the axe shouldn't be anymore likely in the shed than say, the vest in the bed.

That explains it. Actually, it seems that the Dude can't even hit the invisible man (at least, I haven't managed to hit him after about 50 attempts), so if you don't have the right item, you're stuck and have to Alt-F4.
I made another attempt to get through the game without battles; almost managed. It doesn't seem too hard.

That's kinda the invisible man's ability, not getting hit. It is rather pointless to drive this point home by having a battle where nobody hits nobody, so I upped his damage and accuracy.

Quote:
What do you mean by slower? The battles are turn-based. They don't attack at all, at least not in very easy mode.

All of their speed settings are lower than the players speed settings is what I'm getting at.

Aww, but it's much nicer if the game is self-referential and self-consistent rather than meaningless.

Point taken, I changed it to a generic butler.

My mistake. You start with 7 sandwiches and can pick up more. (Would be nice to see how many you picked up).

Done.

Seems to be an engine bug.

BTW, don't forget that you left debug keys enabled.

Ah, great, I thought using the distribute option disabled those automatically.

So... there would still be bosses you have to kill?
I think that with that mechanic you may be better off skinning the game to be about controlling a run-away truck hurtling through city streets or something of the sort, to make it more intuitive.

It's basically what Newbie Newtype said. Although less guilt towards the player and more towards the character.
Maybe it's easier to understand what I'm getting at via crude mockup:

Anyway, as much as I hate to suggest it, I think that the deadline probably should be extended since it seems like quite a few games need it, and I'd kinda like to continue my work on Star Dartle if people think the concept works well enough. And I really don't have enough time today or tomorrow to perfect it.

I’m cool with extending the deadline. How about 4/1? That should give Foxley and Nathan time to finish up their games, as well as Morpheus or TMC time to make more progress on Star Dartle 2000.

I still need to do a little work on Ultra Frontier. Plus, the musician isn’t done with the soundtrack yet. I can also get started on a few of the items below.

Here are the things that need to get done before this sucker can be released.

Bare Minimum
*Title
*Name of Fictional Company
*Trailer Video
*Screenshots
*Menu System
*Promotional Blurb
*At Least 5 Complete Games

Optional
*Website
*NES-style Instruction Manual
*FAQ/Walkthrough
*NES-style Box Art
*History of Fictional Company

Let's start a dialogue about the compilation title and fictional company name. Here are a few I came up with. Let's hear yours!

Company: Megallenium Software
Game: 1999: Megallenium 6-in-1 Mega Cart

Company: HamsterVision
Game: Hamster Party 6-in-1 Power Pack

Company: Celebration Microsys
Game: CelebraTRON 6-in-1 Colossal Cart

Thank goodness for an extension.

I'll try to get something that's playable (sans bosses and enemy variety) by the end of this week, that at least has exploration, shops, getting items and objectives and stuff. That way I can get some feedback.

Kind of fighting off sheer creative burnout, but again, tantalizingly close to finishing a game for once.

Oh rad, I can totally finish by 4/1.

Let me upload what I've got so far, so you believe me...

http://www.slimesalad.com/forum/viewgame.php?p=126553

Ok here it is. It's playable up to after the first battle. There's some weird bug that sends the player up into the top left corner of the map afterwards and I cannot figure out why. Let me know if you find any other weird, game breaking bugs, because I'm pretty sure there are some.

*History of Fictional Company

Megallenium Software was founded in 1988 as a side-venture of Megallenium Race Track Services Limited, a floundering Canadian manufacturer of analog display-boards for horse and dog race track venues.

Intended to diversify Megallenium's core business portfolio in a time when analog gambling odds displays were on the way out, and digital systems were on the way in, Megallenium Software was suppose to develop a line of software for race tracks and casinos. Instead, Co-Owner and Lead Developer Bruce Kazantazakis diverted almost all of his team's resources into developing games.

After two years of development, 1999: Megallenium 6-in-1 Mega Cart was almost complete, but Megallenium Software had run out of money. Before they could finalize a deal with a publisher, Both Megallenium Software and Megallenium Race Track Services Limited filed for bankruptcy, and both companies were dissolved and their assets were sold off to pay back taxes and outstanding debt.

The rights to 1999: Megallenium 6-in-1 Mega Cart as well as the master backups on a stack of twelve 5 and 1/4 floppy disks remained in the possession of Kazantazakis, who spend the next five years trying to get them published.

Unfortunately, Kazantazakis would not budge on his demand that any deal would guarantee him sole creative control of any future sequels, so every publisher he approached rejected the games.

In 1995, Bruce Kazantazakis died in an unfortunate Roller-Skating accident, and the Megallenium 6-in-1 Mega Cart floppy disks remained in a box in his widow's garage for the next 22 years, until they were sold at an estate auction after her passing in January of 2017.

Ummmm..

I just realized I forgot to reimplement the cutscene at the beginning of CrapTactics so right now it's just a weird thing that goes on. For anyone who's played it already, I'm sorry. I'll reupload it with the actual textboxes and stuff so there's some context for what's going on.

Megallenium

I wasn't even thinking of giving it one, but the ship the party needs to reach Skull-Shaped Island is going to have a name now. Only it'll be Magellanium, ostensibly after the famous explorer who circumnavigated the world.

Damn. That's pretty good! Is Bruce's name is a reference to someone or something in particular?

Kazantazakis is an intentional misspelling of the last name of the guy who wrote "Zorba the Greek".

Cool! The plotscripted intro is pretty sweet. The wagon tearing apart is a nice effect.

Noticed a bug. You probably already know about it, but when the enemies attack, the damage does not display on top of the target hero. See screenshots.

Also, the heroes miss WAY too much.
