Hyne falls silent. He considers hunting something to cook on the fire, but isn't sure there is much time left in the day to see well. He may consume a ration, otherwise.

The shadows are indeed growing long. The sun will go down soon.

When Hyne takes out a ration, the old guard fetches one of his own, but he does not seem inclined to volunteer further conversation

After some time, three other guards come down from the mountainside. They all look exhausted. One of them is the agitated guard, but he seems to have worn himself out, and he seems calm.

One of the others says.

"No use. We couldn't find even a hint of a trail"

"Those Jenn vanished like ghosts."

After swallowing some of the dried food, he asks, "Then the crown is gone for certain?"

The agitated guard groans audibly at this and holds his head in his hands.

"There now" says the old guard. "The Duke has it under control. Thanks to the Harborbishop, we'll know soon where they are going, and no doubt the Duke will send a whole battalion to wipe them out and fetch it back" He says this with an air of confidence that stands in contrast to how he was speaking to Hyne before the other guards came back.

"We best not waste time camping here. If we hurry we can catch up to the procession by the time they reach Bovo Township. We can get some ale and maybe some proper rest tonight."

Hyne tosses the tin and its half eaten contents into his bag and gets up, "I suppose that means we're getting a move on."

"You can ride with us if you like. We can trade off so the horses won't get tired" offers the old guard.

The other three guards seem unhappy about this, but stop short of grumbling.

One kicks dirt into the fire, while the others get the horses ready.

Hyne walks as they go down the road.

The guards don't talk much. They all seem troubled by recent events.

The sky grows darker, and soon the stars and moon are out. There is enough light that they can see the road, and nobody moves to light a torch.

Hyne gets a turn riding one of the guard's horses.

The horse seems wary of an unfamiliar rider when Hyne mounts, but calms down right away and gives no further trouble.

Amidst the sound of crickets and night-birds, the group reaches Bovo Township.

Bovo's buildings are spread out through the forest. Many of the houses near the road have lights on inside, and many are flying flags or showing other decorations.

The royal procession is filling the town square, and the side streets are jammed with parked and mostly empty wagons and carriages. Erato's bright red wheels are noticeable among them.

It seems as if the procession bet them to town by less than an hour. A large banner hangs over the square which reads "THE KING IS DEAD R,I,P, LONG LIVE THE QUEEN"

A tent has been erected over the King's wagon, and there are some guards outside. There is a bit of a mess, as if there had been some outdoor festivities, that have now moved indoors.

There are two large buildings, one that looks like a tavern, and one that looks like a dance-hall. Both are brightly lit-up, and there are a lot of people inside of each. There is also a temple which is only minimally lit. It doesn't look like that is where the party is happening.

As they approach the small outpost, Hyne dismounts from the steed and allows the guard it is assigned, or belongs to, to deliver it to take it where it needs to stay for the night. He will allow the group to separate from him.

The old guard with the eye-patch gives Hyne a nod and a touches his helmet politely. The agitated guard gives Hyne a suspicious glare, and then turns his back on him.

Hyne is alone.

The elevation of Bovo Township is higher than most of the other parts of the kingdom of Srappa, and the air is colder. All the activity seems to be going on indoors, so it isn't very hard to sneak about the streets without being noticed.

Hyne finally has a moment alone after several days. Ever since finding that wounded soldier left to bleed, eyes have been over his shoulder and he has felt claustrophobic with the vast crowds that have surrounded him since.

He rubs his hands together and breathes into his cupped hands in the chill air. He heads for a tree to find seclusion under then pulls out the box. He examines it again, pivoting and yawing it in his hand to glance at it from different angles. "What the hell is the point of this thing..?" He wonders. Nothing that had happened today suggests the importance of anything other than the crown that was stolen. He doesn't even know if it's even a gift, it could be some kind of trap for all he knows.

The ranger takes a strained breath, "I must find out what this is. I wonder if there's anyone in this town that can help." After putting the box in the bag, he resumes his careful stroll through the town, looking to see what places exist other than the tavern.

The box provides no answers.

There isn't any obvious way to open it. Hyne can see the nails that hold it together. Prying it apart might be the only way to open it.

Hyne bypasses the Tavern.

The dance hall seems to have a similar atmosphere to the Tavern. It is full of people, although no dancing appears to be happening at the moment, and no music competes with the drum-and-trumpet dirge coming from the King's wagon-tent.

The temple is not big, but it does look old and ornate. Above the door is a stained-glass window depicting two waves smashing together

It seems to be the same holy symbol that Harborbishop Cray had embroidered on his vestments. A little candlelight is illuminating it from the inside, but the rest of the temple looks dark.

Hyne also spots what appears to be an outdoor market. Most of the stalls are already closed up for the night, but he sees a pair of old women chatting and laughing while washing up a barbecue stall, and at the far end is the red glow and steady hammering of a blacksmith working late.

There is also an apothecary and a general store side-by-side. Both have lights on inside, but it isn't clear whether or not they are open. No people are visible there.

Beyond those, most of Bovo Township seems to be close-packed small residential houses. Most are painted white, and have steeply peaked roofs with an aesthetic that seems to be inspired by thatched cottages, while actually being built of some sturdier stuff.

Hyne weighs his options.. The stores are going to close soon, so he decides to visit the black smith first to do business with him. He nods in greeting, "I don't want to take much of your time, I just want to inquire where I can buy a survival knife and a hatchet before close?" He asks this in case the blacksmith delivers to a store, rather than vendors himself.

The blacksmith puts down his hammer, and wipes his face with an already-dirty rag.

"A KNIFE AND A HATCHET YOU SAY?" asks the big man, cupping his hand around his ear, and speaking far more loudly than he needs to.

He opens up a sturdy cabinet full of gleaming weapons and tools. A few fall out on the floor, and he picks them up. It looks as if these would normally be spread out on tables for purchase, and the cabinet is where he puts them away after hours.

The selection of knives is fairly broad. The smaller ones are suitable as tools, but not so good for fighting, and they start at 5 silver. The bigger ones are more dagger-like, and could be used for fighting, or dressing game. They average around 2 gold.

There is also another smaller cabinet. This one has a glass front, and an obviously magical lock on it. The knives and swords in this one look extravagant, and don't have visible price tags attached.

As for hatchets, he has a number of full-sized lumberjack axes, but only two actual portable hand-axes. One is a simple plain hatchet with a wooden handle. The handle has been painted a cheerful bright green color. The blade looks strong and sharp, but it is probably not well-balanced for throwing. It costs 4 gold.

The other hatchet looks as if it was cold-forged from a single lump of meteorite. Everywhere that isn't gleaming is black. There are some horizontal indentations of various lengths, down the side of it, but if they are writing, it isn't in a script you have ever seen before.

The price tag reads 800 399 50 SALE! 1 gold

As Hyne looks over the weapons, the Blacksmith pulls the "SALE!" price tag off the black hand-axe and replaces it with one that says "FREE with ANY purchase!"
