"'elp ees comeeng! 'elp your neighbors and families and leave your belongeengs! Gather water and wait outside for the fire brigade!" Cece tries to barge her way up to the third floor to help that kid. He's as good a place to start as any.

Sharn, accustomed to screams and odd noises, doesn't think much of the noise outside at first. She began to brush away Arcadia's notions of trouble. "This is the poor distirct. Someone's always screaming about something. Then she over heard something about firefighters outside.
"They've come for me!"
Sharn new this would happen. The last time she had a gig with a steady wage, she showed up one day only to find the place had been completed taken over by a rival gang and all women there and been forced to work at that gang's brothel. She was glad she slept somewhere else that night.
She wouldn't be so lucky this time if they found her here. She moved to grab what she could before leaving. Maybe some of those magic pamphlets, or perhaps someone had left their cloak around. These large magical looking stones were likely worth something, but they were much to big to carry. Where was that magic bucket?!
"The bucket!" Sharn yelled to herself. As Normin stormed in, Sharn magically took hold of the bucket and moved to leave out the stable's entrance.

Arcadia watched Sharn in disbelief as the girl seemed to have some existential crisis. Arcadia just shook her head in disbelief. The poor part of town couldn't be that bad, right? There has to be a reason for the shouting. Arcadia wasn't going to chase after Sharn, the girl was a whirlwind, so instead she would grab whatever supplies were around to fight the fire before heading towards the noise.

Petrol ponders for a moment at the leather shop side door, but decides against sneaking in and filching something. The day had been going great so far, and there was no point in pushing his luck...

Petrol doesn't think too much of the smoke in the background, not sure if those were actual smoke or clouds. Besides, there's no way a fire could've broken out so soon after the firefighting guild was started, could there?

The smoke does remind Petrol that he had taken the lion's share of the magical equipment that morning. After the big sausage party there were probably enough buckets to go around for everyone, but one of the helmets was stashed away in his inventory and the cloak was still on his back. It was probably a good idea to leave at least the cloak at the guild.

With this in mind, Petrol makes his way towards the firefighter's guild.

At the Burning Building

Cece's persuasion check at advantage wrote:
Success!

Many of the people in the first floor hallway look at Cece and her shiny red hat, and decide to do what she says. Several people stop carrying heavy objects, and instead start going door-to-door calling in "Anyone still inside?" "Hello!? Everyone out! The fire birgade is here!" Some others who were on their way back inside for more stuff seem to think better of it, and head for the exit. A handful ignore her completely and keep lugging boxes of clothes and papers.

Cece hurries up the stairs. This staircase goes up in a zig-zag spiral fashion-- half a flight up to a landing, around the other way to the second floor.

The second floor hallway is similar to the first floor hallway, except that instead of the front entrance there is a big window, and instead of a door to the central courtyard there is a small window.

If anything seems confusing about the layout of the building, don't hesitate to ask

On the second floor there are people moving in the hallways, but nobody seems intent on lugging any heavy furniture down the stairs.

Cece continues up the stairs directly up to the third floor. This floor looks exactly like the second floor, with a hallway and two windows, one big one facing the street, and one small one facing the inner courtyard.

Cece can smell the smoke a lot more strongly up here on the third floor, but there is still not enough of it to impair vision.

The only person obviously visible is a big dwelf man sprinting towards her from the east end of the hallway. He is definitely not the same motionless person Cece saw earlier. That person must have been in one of the apartments down the hall to the west.

The next flight of stairs that leads to the 4th floor is blocked off at the landing with a rope and an overturned chair. There is a hand-painted sign that says: "DANGEROUS"

Inside Headquarters

Before Normin can pick up the magic bucket, it is seized by Sharn's mage-hand cantrip, and flies after her towards the stable.

Sharn lifts the wooden bar that keeps the stable door shut, and flees into the small alleyway behind the Headquarters building. From this alley, the burning building is just as easily visible as it is from out front on Bad Noodle Lane.

The only equipment available for Normin, Caldon, and Arcadia to pick up are the abundant mundane buckets (a few of them still containing leftover sausages and cheeses)

Further up Bad Noodle Lane

Evangeline and Ebald both hurry down Bad Noodle Lane towards the Headquarters and towards the burning building. They could see Normin and Caldon go into the Headquarters, and they see Arcadia as she is the first to emerge with a bucket.

Strolling towards Headquarters

As Petrol leaves Marketday and moves towards the Poor Quarter, the shape of the black cloud in the sky becomes decidedly more ominous. It is obviously smoke, and it is coming from up ahead.

In Kailyn's Flat

Piter hastily blocks in the color, and moves onto the light and shadow. He takes bold impressionistic liberties. Detail can wait, he must first capture the essence of the composition. Who would have thought that having a patron would have lead him to such great artistic inspiration so soon!?

The cloud of smoke in the sky is depicted by a few deft sweeps of a broad feathery brush.

Piter gasps again as the full visual impact of the cloud hits him. He knows what it means, and what it means is this; The angle of the black cloud perfectly accentuates Kailyn's horns, both drawing his face into the foreground while simultaneously binding his shape to the larger composition!

Piter doesn't speak this out loud of course, no non-artist could comprehend it, and of course Kailyn doesn't see it because the cloud is to his back, and the canvas is not facing him.

Excellent! Those nobles will see the good side of these slums yet... Cece continues her rush towards where she saw the frozen guy, unable to get that face out of her mind. A lot of people are surely going to die today, but that guy looked at her. That has to mean something! He's the copper coin worth saving.

Ebald turns to his fellow firefighter with a worried, exasperated expression and says "Hurry, Evangeline, we must go help them!" and runs toward headquarters, hoping to catch up to Normin and Caldon. He couldn't believe he'd already be fighting another fire, but he was determined to do his best.

"That's right," Sharn said out loud to herself. "It's crazy but things are actually different now. I'm a fighter of fires. These people Im with seem to care." Sharn looked at the magic bucket. "They'll need this."
No one needs you except me, said the voice in Sharn's head.
Sharn, still a bit buzzed from earlier, did her best to shake away the voice. "I'll do my best," she said to herself. Then she ran towards the fire.

Just as it seemed like he was heading to the fire... he was still at the station. Muttering nonsense to himself, he takes a bucket and hopes that no further delays hinder his already limited usefulness.

Third Floor of the Burning Building

Cece hurries to the door that she thinks matches the apartment where she saw the person at the window. When she throws the door open, a flimsy metal latch-chain pulls out of the wall with a small splintering sound, and clinks against the inside of the door.

The room is dark, and the only light is coming from the far window, where the person is standing silhouetted. They do not turn and look at Cece. A loose lock of their hair dances in the gentle breeze from outside.

Thanks to her half-elven darkvision, Cece's eyes adjust quickly to the dimness, and she can see that the rest of the room is densely cluttered with junk, although there is a clear path along the floor to the window.

The Street Outside The Burning Building

Sharn, Normin, Caldon, Arcadia, Ebald and Evangeline all reach the street in front of the burning building. Most of them are carrying at least one bucket. Arcadia has all the rest of the buckets

They can all see the flames and smoke pouring from the 5th floor of the building, mostly on the left (west) side. Smoke is also trickling from the 4th floor windows.

People are exiting the building from both the front entrance, and a side entrance on the left (west) side. There is some chaos and shouting in the street, but at least the people coming from the front entrance seem to be making their way outside in a semi-orderly fashion.

An old woman is sitting on a couch in the street.

A person is visible in a window on the 3rd floor, just standing there and staring out.

A bearded man with greenish skin and a peg-leg is hobbling towards the building from the street shouting "My babies! my babies! I came as quick as I heard! Are my babies still inside?"

Petrol

Petrol hurries towards the smoke. He will get there in another turn.

As he approaches the corner of Sausage Row and Bad Noodle Lane, he spots an Executioner. The tall human is standing on the sidewalk staring at the cloud in the sky. His face is unreadable behind his wooden mask, but his body language is full of alert curiosity.

Kailyn

Arctor sees how the light of the afternoon sun is interplaying with the cloud of smoke behind Kailyn's head. He realizes something terrible!

He is almost out of burn umber ocher!

"Count Kailyn! I must rush to the Paint Shoppe!" says Piter, "Please your lordship! Don't move a muscle!" he adds pleadingly, imploringly, as he wipes his hands on a paint rag and hurries out of the flat.
