CAMPAIGN: The Unburning (D&D5e)

Rasvim and Ebald take the second body from Kailyn, as Cece gets hers down the stairs

In a moment there are three gruesome bodies sprawled out in front of the tent.

Arcadia casts Spare the Dying on them, and there is absolutely no effect, as if she had cast the spell on a lump of wax... which is apparently exactly what she has done.

Petrol returns with another bucket, and heads up the right stairs where Cece had come from. He immediately sees the fire closest to the top of the stairs. It is already bigger than the one he had doused down below

Kailyn coughs uncontrollably



Kailyn takes 1 point of suffocation damage. He may be resistant to fire, but his lungs were not built to breathe this smoke!

When Kailyn turns back to grab a third body... there is only one there! The other two seem to have abruptly vanished!

As others return the gnome continues to fill their buckets with water. "So what did it end up being like in there?" he asks.

There wasn't a moment to hesitate! Petrol would empty his bucket all over the flames at the top of the stairs as soon as he could reach it.

Rasvim answers Normin before rushing back it. "Much smoke, and Rasvim suspects the bodies are fake."

Caldon examines the body in greater detail. If this thing is alive, then it needs medical attention. If it's not, then what were they doing here?

Test, indeed.

Ebald replies with Rasvim "Yeah, it's a mess in there... and..." he looks down at the body as Rasvim mentions he thinks it's fake. He was caught up in the moment and didn't get a good look at the person he carried, but now that he did they looked quite unnatural.

He'd never seen a badly burned body before but he hoped that the bodies before him were just test dummies.

Caldon prods the body nearest to him. It is made of wax. The horrible color and texture of the skin is just semi-melting honeycomb. That sweet smell is honey residue.

"Fakes, they ees! Yes!" Provincial laughs. "Now! Geet the rest of them out of there without keeling yourselves in the process!"

Petrol splashes his bucket over the flame in the upstairs corner, and a little more than half of it is extinguished.

As he rushes downstairs for the next bucketful, he spots a new patch of flame growing in the lower level. He can see the light from the hole he cut earlier, and this new flame is not anywhere near it.

Once Cece has the body far enough away from the fire to be safe, she's going to quit dragging him and follow Petrol's lead. His tactics are working, hers aren't. "Sorry! 'old on! I weel no leave you 'ere!"

She wears an expression of relief... running feels a lot more useful than dragging.

Petrol groans as he spots the second patch of flames on the first floor, though there was nothing else he could do about it now. "Flames sprouting up everywhere! Multiplying like rabbits! One patch on the ground floor and one on the top of the right staircase!" He would report to Normin, as well as anyone he passed on the way down.

Thinking for a moment, he would make a request to Normin. "Would you mind if I took the magic bucket up to the second floor? It'll be much easier to carry water down a flight of stairs than up."

Normin chuckles, "Already melting. Perhaps the integrity of your models were at stake, even if lives weren't."

When Petrol informs him of the growing dire state of the building burning, he suggests, "Allow me to accompany you. I will try to think of a way to keep the water pouring from higher up."

If allowed to accompany Petrol, he'll finally realize that it was dark in the building the whole time, a fact that his mind overlooked prior, then cast Light to illuminate their way.

Petrol is pleased by Normin's suggestion, and more than willing to accept the gnome's assistance. Now it's starting to feel like they're working as a team!

If there's any buckets left, Rasvim switches to helping put out the fire. If not, he keeps dragging the honey-dudes out.

Ebald accompanies Rasvim, as they had just both finished hauling out the body. While hauling out the bodies would look good for the test, Ebald would rather put out the fires first, as they present a danger to his companions. He walks back into the building with his hands on his cloak, ready for action.

Evangeline assists in the fire outting efforts the best she can.

There are too many bodies in the tent already for Caldon to be of use inside, so he instead looks for a way to contribute to the firefighting effort from the outside.
