<TheGiz>: So Mid-Winter.. what would you say the temperature is like? Is it hot year round?

Great Bakak is hot and dry all year round.

In summertime it is sweltering. Sometimes people die of heat exhaustion. People often stretch ropes and blankets for shade between the roofs of tall tenement apartments in the poor quarter. (of course, by the time Midfall rolls around, most of these ropes and blankets have been stolen) The wealthy use servants waving fans, or wind-magic (water and cold magic are too expensive for cooling even on an aristocrat's budget)

In wintertime the weather is pretty pleasant. You can even get a little bit of rain now and then. It still gets hot, but not sticky-dusty-horrible hot. Wintertime is the best tourist season, and when most of the festival days are concentrated.

This quest starts on 18-Midwinter, on a clear and beautiful day.

Sounds like a city that would've burnt to the ground already without the curse in place!

I would like to play.
I'd like to be a wizard elf. I'm making her as quick as I can.
I'm new to playing dungeons and dragons.

This is the link to my wizard { http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=853588 }
Her name is Arcadia, she's chaotic good, and I would like to make her rich.

Ooh! I was not expecting someone new! Welcome! :D

Arcadia looks great. I especially love the undead father. What was his name? Also, since her family was well known, a family name might be helpful too.

What is her wealth/lifestyle? I can make her a home as soon as I know oh! You said "Rich" I misread that as a goal, not a lifestyle description :)

I will have her house ready tomorrow

You have a ton of stuff in your inventory, but since you are a hoarder living in a junk pile, I am going to allow it. Make a note that all your stuff is filthy and of low quality (it still all works, except for the lantern which is badly broken, and the rations which are super-duper-rotten)

Hehe, sorry. I was going off of the rogue starter kit. I can remove any of it that you deem unfit.

Don't worry! Having a bunch of stuff seems fitting for him :)

Btw, James, did you want us to pick out colors for when posting in-character like in Spoon's campaign?

Was gonna draw it myself but... modified it from an SMT game instead. *I'M* the one who should live in a trash can..
Some final stupid origin stuff before we start:

Mondieu - God of Surprises

French Canadian name is just an organizational joke and unlikely to come up in gameplay, you can slap me if it does.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Domain: Trickery

In the French Canadian campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, Mondieu is the God of Surprises, both happy and sad. A scattering of feathers is his holy symbol.

Description:
He is generally depicted as a human male. Appropriate to his unpredictable nature there are no constant features of his appearance, except that he and intruments of his influence are marked by a surrounding scattered cloud of feathers.

Worshippers:

Prayer to Mondieu is simple. When one believes they've seen his influence (Ie: when one is surprised) all they need do is say his name to acknowledge his presence. Angry acknowledgement is believed to discourage further negative surprises and a joyful response believed to be encouraging for positive ones, but of course there's no way of knowing.

Almost all French Canadians will invoke him, even if only as a curse, but Mondieu's dual-sided nature makes devoted worship rare. Novice rogues love him when they're the ones doing the surprising, only to curse his name when that little old lady with a big bag of gold turns out to be the Archmage of Quebecois. Most gamblers reject him after they've lost enough money betting on "sure things". Court Jesters sometimes wear a sloppy coat of feathers in his honor.

Rarely there are self-appointed Clerics of Mondieu, though their careers tend to be short. Some are as likely to jump off a bridge as they are to cross it, with unsurprising results. Others lose interest as their audience begins to "expect the unexpected". A Paladin devoted to Mondieu would be quite surprising, indeed!

In spite of all these things, there are still some who consider themselves true followers of Mondieu. There are no organized temples, though some faithful choose hide a few feathers in places others are unlikely to look. While there are no clergy, no rituals and no requirements for entry, these true followers tend to share common traits. They are almost always adventurers. Life on the road is full of surprises and chances to enjoy them. They are unlikely to create chaos for chaos' sake, preferring to follow their instincts and let things play out as Mondieu will allow it.

Equipment Explanations/Justifications/Origins

Bedroll - stolen from a guy too dead to enjoy it. Has been cleaned religiously, but somehow still feels dirty...

Light crossbow - an early acquisition, and first good dumpster dive. Someone must've thrown it away by mistake and someone else fell in and accidentally got shot... twice. A little polish, good as new! Cece carries it mostly to look more threatening.

Explorer's Pack and contents - largely stuff nicked from the family homestead. They probably don't miss some of it.

Mismatched Kitchen Knives - One was obtained thanks to a careless gyro-carver who abandoned their post to give birth. The other pilfered from an orc's misplaced mess-kit.

Green Orb - Arcane Focus and most treasured possession. Kept either in hand or in apron pocket. Has a weird swirly pattern to it.

Clothes -
A shabby brown vest that used to be a jacket worn over a discarded white apron intended for a gnome. Over-sized gray pants tucked into black stompy boots, held up with a bit of old rope.

You can if you want, but it is optional.

@Gizmog: that extra backstory stuff is fantastic :)

@Sazae: I have Arcadia's house ready! I really went a bit overboard with the expenses, I hope it all works out okay for you:

------

Arcadia's house wrote:
After the mysterious "disappearance" of Arcadia's father, the family's reputation declined and their finances collapsed. She took out several loans using the house as collateral in order to maintain her lifestyle.

The general consensus among the gossip-carriers is that her father skipped town to avoid some kind of social shame, but nobody can agree on what.

The house is large and fine, and located in the oldest and most prestigious parts of the Granary Hill district. It is big, but not quite so big that you would call it a mansion.

When the loan money ran out, she was forced to let go the butler, the wait-staff, all but one of the maids, all but one of the stablehands, and the coachman. She sold the carriage, and all but her favorite horse.

Friends stopped calling for social visits, and extended family stopped visiting or offering help, instead just exchanging forced pleasantries when they met her about town, and then going on their way shaking their heads. "Shame about her father."

Arcadia's expenses and savings wrote:

Her total monthly expenses is 76 gold.

She pays a total of 48 gold per month on her tiny remaining staff.

8 silver a day on her last maid/housekeeper
3 silver a day on her stableboy
5 silver a day to keep her last riding horse fed

She pays 8 gold a month in property taxes

She pays 20 gold a month to pay back her loans, and much of that is covering the interest.

Her current savings is 41 gold, although she might be able to scrape together a little more money if she sold some more of the antique furniture from the house.

------

Decorate her house as you please, but remember that she has already had to sell some furniture, and there is only one maid left to clean the place.

Please name the maid, stableboy, and horse.

The horse is not combat-trained, and you are only an average rider.

I know you are starting with more gold and more resources than the rest of the party, but with those loans hanging over your head, you might be worse off financially than the homeless players ;)

Is it too late for me to get in on this?

The CAMPAIGN thread is officially open!

Head on over and start your day!

For now I am going to cap the party size at 10 11 players. We are holding one slot open for Mogri if he still wants to join. (and one more for MasterK because you post so dang fast!) If anybody else wants to join, they will have to wait until somebody drops out (or until I am convinced that I have not already bitten off more than I can chew!)

This thread is still the place for questions, comments, and out-of-character metachat
