Super Slime Battle Tournament

Quite a few people seem to be used to the Arena by now.
It's about time we've had one of these.

Prizes:
Each entrant would contribute some Slime$ to the pot and the winner would take most of it and the runner ups might have a little bit.
Maybe one of the Admins could even toss in some sort of a special treat?

Discuss:
What kind of tournament would be preferable?

I would like for this to be a team tourney, but I'm not quite sure how they should be set up.

It would probably be more fair for Slimes to just sign up and have me assign groups according to their strengths/weaknesses.

However, I think it'd be more fun if you could choose your own teams.

Round robin pairings? This would maybe take forever if a lot of people signed up, but suppose that it was just players A, B, C, and D:

AB vs CD
AC vs BD
AD vs BC

Looks simple until player E joins:

AB vs CD
AB vs CE
AB vs DE
AC vs BD
AC vs BE
AC vs DE
AD vs BC
AD vs BE
AD vs CE
AE vs BC
AE vs BD
AE vs CD


Anyway, it's about time there was a tournament, so if there's enough interest, I'll waive any entrance fee and give out official prizes. We need a good format, though.

I'd like to leave signups open for at least a couple of days after you revive the interest thread. You can do an unofficial run if you want -- we'll retroactively officialize those matches unless the format changes.

Is there any way to automate the challenge issuance? For now it is no problem, but with a slightly larget group of players it will get overwhelming.

well since there only needs to be 1 or 2 people challenging i don't think it'll be that big a deal really.

I mean wouldn't setting up a new feature JUST for this tourney be kinda weird?

Presumably there will be more tourneys down the line.

I'll give it some thought. It would be silly to automate challenge issuance for a certain format then have all the tournaments be in different formats.

Oh, the practice fight finished and was great.

I think I've helped a couple people get their helmets so that they can last a bit longer than usual.

It'd be nice if those slimes would step up, though.
It looks like we've got 5 entrants so far?
I'll let sign-ups last until the end of today and then we can try to figure something out.
