Well, I've gone done dropped my laptop on the ground and now it's gone from just a crappy computer to downright unusable. I have computer labs available to me, but it's a bit hard to work on those considering I don't think I'm able to install the ohr on them. I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to get another compy. This may hinder my game process a bit.

Oh damn, that really really sucks. :\

Something I did at work on lunchbreaks while cramming to get a tech demo of Hollowkeep done in a month was put a .ZIP portable folder of OHRRPGCE/Custom on a flash drive, and just run it directly from the flash drive. It worked, though its read/writes were kind of sluggish at times. That might work for you too on your computer lab computers, it doesn't require an installation of any kind.

Yeah, running OHR off a flash drive should probably work fine.

Anyways work on my own game has been going well so far. I had a slight setback for a few days when I was busy moving, but I try to at least get something done every day, even if it's some sort of small detail. Around 85% of the art assets for the demo are done (the rest are placeholders) which has been a relief. I've been considering making a progress thread too at some point as well.

For the first time like, ever, I actually have an RPG with over 30 minutes of content. I'm gonna wait until I wrap up the first major chunk of the game, but there's actually a good chance I'll participate in this.

(But of course, you know me. There's a 95% chance I'll drop out at the last minute. No promises.)

I've practically stopped working on game stuff altogether, got too many other things going on. I'll probably drop out, but maybe I'll get a second wind between now and the end of July.

Substitute November for July and you've got the slogan most heard every Heart of the OHR, and three months in means right on schedule! One of these days I'm gonna start deducting points to every person who announces they're dropping out two months before the contest ends.

In all seriousness though, do what you can. Setbacks and over-planning happen. There's no need to predict you'll drop out long before the end of the contest. Just do what you can and see where you are at the end of July. Announcing your intentions is a good way to fulfill your intentions, and if you're intention is to fail at finishing, then that's what will happen. I'd rather you work on what you can, and if you finish, then awesome, and if you don't, then we'll never know we missed out on something if you don't tell us about it in the first place.

Awesome. Remember, you don't have to wait until July 31st to release your game to be eligible. You can release it right now and be eligible. Not saying you should if you're not ready, but you don't need to hold it hostage for some special day if you are ready.

Annnnd we're back to announcing a failure to finish. Seriously, what is it with this community's expectation to fail? Expect to succeed, guys and girls! That's how good becomes great.

Next person who announces he's dropping out, or plans to drop out, or thinks he'll drop out is getting an automatic five-point deduction from his overall score if he does end up entering. Just release a game on time or don't. We don't need an explanation for either.

Haha, that's probably a good idea. When everyone's dropping out, the motivation you get from wanting to stick to what you said you would do (announcing your intentions) disappears.

Basically, I did estimates on how long certain parts of this part of the game project would take to complete, both to know how much time per week I would need to commit to, and also to prevent myself from overscoping. With that, I made an easily doable, <10 hour/week schedule to work on game stuff and just chip away at it.

And that's completely fallen through: I've gotten less done in the last 2 months than I have in the first few weeks of March. So based on my estimates, at this point I'm either going to rush out something that's not even really playable, or drop out. I work 40 hour weeks, have a hellish commute and will be going back to school soon, so I can't make up the time that I didn't commit to, which will leave many goals unmet.

I'm by no means giving up on this project, it's really important to me, but I'm ready to accept that an arbitrary time limit on getting this part of it done isn't going to work out, given the circumstances. Which is fine! It still pushed me to get a lot done, for a short while at least.

Come on guys, you don't want my janky newbie game to be the only game entered in the contest. :/
Don't give up, there's still two more months. I believe in you.

I do actually intend to finish, but clinical depression makes it a bit tough to get out of bed in the morning, much less work on my game. I'm not trying to make up some sob story, I'm just saying that things might collapse around me again and I might not be able to deliver a quality product™ by the end of July.

What I can promise is that I will work my hardest to get it finished enough to play.

EDIT: And as my good buddy Idontknow would say: "Let's positive thinking!"

If I can get hspeak to stop destroying everything it touches, I may actually enter with a remake of Grayscale. So far, it's coming along pretty good, save for the fact my compiler crashes and burns whenever I try to use it.

I hope that there's any chance for me to enter with my game "Quodia"?
It's very basic OHR stuff only the fighting is a bit altered.

I think the only criteria is "it has to be a RPG", and if you use the engine's battle system, then it instantly qualifies.
