"Blast it! I can't pick any of the cards up!" Lynda says, dismayed.

"Gontort, are you able to pick up any of these cards?" Lynda says to Gontort.

The werewolf gives Kalar a stern look. "A necromancer? Do not cast any of your necromany spells in here. As for Charles' sword, let me save you the trouble, it is cursed." The werewolf leans back a bit. "I suppose I could let you take those books for a fee. I normally charge adventurers 100 gold to look through the library. I could charge you 100 gold per book, if you are interested."

Meanwhile, Gontort draws the middle card Lynda first selected. Gontort immediately falls lifeless to the floor. The card he revealed is the void.

"Hmm, very well, that is a fair transaction. But cursed you say? How so? And rest assured, I will not perform any necromancy within the library if you do not wish it so, you have my word, and I am a man of my word."

"Oh, it can possess its wielder. If that turns you off of the idea of getting these books I'll understand. If not, leave the gold on the table over there and try not to disturb me." The werewolf goes back to reading.

"The idea does indeed seem less appealing, but I gave my word and I cannot break it."

Kalar places the required gold on the table and heads into the library to find Charles' books. He also keeps an eye out for any titles that might look interesting.

*How many books was that? Kalar currently has enough on him for 12 books.

Kalar looks at the list, it has 13 books on it but he only has enough to pay for 12 of them.

Hmm...

Kalar leaves the library for a while and speaks to Hrulgin, "I seem to be short a hundred gold, for the books that I need. Could you head for the treasure room I showed you? Pick up a few hundred or so please and bring it back here. Thank you. But don't enter the library, the fellow inside doesn't seem to appreciate necromancy. Just have Lynda or Gontort bring the money."

Kalar thinks for a second and says, "On second thought, not Gontort, he might attack the man."

While waiting for Hrulgin, Kalar peruses the library, looking around for anything that might be interesting or informative.

The ghoul heads for the black room. Kalar looks around the library. He finds a few of the books. He also finds 4 magical scrolls, tuck in between books. One of them seems very ancient.

Kalar examines the scrolls, particularly the ancient one, trying to determine any information about them that he can.

3 of the scrolls seem to be arcane in nature. Kalar notices that they are locate object, fireball, and wall of ice scrolls.
Then Kalar looks at the ancient scroll.

The ancient scroll looses all it's text as Kalar is turned into a dog. He can't seem to speak normally, but his mind remains intact. Kalar tries to figure out what to do, now that he's a dog.

It's a curse, has to be. Kalar the Dog thinks to himself...

If it's a curse, then that means that it can be broken. And if it can be broken, then that means there is a
*bone!* spell that can do it. He wracks his mind thinking of *cat!* something that could do it... He's fairly sure that *treat!* Tammytharn is powerful enough to remove curses, but he has no way of communicating.

He continues thinking. His mind seems to be entirely intact
*good boy!* thus far, with nothing strange seeming to happen. If that's the case, then perhaps his connection to his deity remains unbroken? Kalar the dog focuses all his will, calling upon his patron deity as he's never called upon him before, trying to create light within the area.

For now though, he supposes he'll wait for Hrulgin.

Kalar tries to speak the words for his light spell, but only barks come out. He tries to think of non-verbal spells that also don't involve complex hand motions.

The werewolf chuckles. He marks his place in his book, sets it down, and walks over to Kalar. "Look what you've gotten yourself into. I had thought you were intelligent enough to avoid reading such things. I'm not sure if I can reverse that spell. I can, however, return you to your human form by inflicting you with lycanthropy. Not everyone survives this process, so if you're willing to risk it bark once. If you'd rather look for another way to return to normal, bark twice. Assuming you're still in there."

Kalar ponders this... On the one hand, Tammytharn might be able to reverse the spell. But if this person claims he is unable to reverse it, then it might very well be beyond Tammy's abilities.

If what the werewolf says is true, then there's a chance that he won't survive the ordeal, not something Kalar wishes to have happen. But if he remains in this shape as a dog, then he will forever be defenseless and at the mercy of others, a fate that would be far worse. He swore to himself years ago to never be at the mercy of others in that way again. If he does turn into a werewolf, then at least he'll be alive and have his strength and abilities, and there will be chances in the future to rid himself of the affliction.

His choices are clear, and not wanting to face a fate worse than death, Kalar decides.

"Woof."
