Castle Amber: A D&D Adventure

"Well, you do have the power of glibness to assist you, and I merely have my physical beauty and incredible modesty, so I guess I shall take the cloak."

Lynda will take and wear the cloak.

"Lovely! It suits you well."

The cabin began to fade away. The heroes found themselves back in the midst of battle. The tomb was as if they had never left it. No time seemed to have passed since they left.

Rob looks around to see if any of their other companions look better-rested, or equipped with anything new. He asks Azedarac; "Did anything strange just happen to you when I made that wish?"

Dan shot a spell at the beholder. It became a frog. "There's no time to talk things out with that thing."

Azedarac enchanted the tall man's spiked chain. It became jet black. "Aim for the swarm. That's where it will be hiding." Azedarac seemed to be focused on the battle, and completely ignored Rob and his question.

Wren became a bear. He then charged into the Kythons on the right. They began to fight. Wren seemed to be doing badly. One of the other kythons moved towards Kalar's minions and smashed a ghoul, completely destroying it. The other kython moved towards the coffin. It loomed over Harvey, looking in the coffin for more than just mist. It looked ready to attack the coffin.

The tall inquisitor flew up towards the swarm. His spiked chain whirled about viciously, spewing vile darkness around as it did. The deafing screech returned momentarily as the swarm as slashed. Then, a green blade struck out from the swarm. The tall man's head fell to the floor, his body following shortly behind.

The swarm sank towards the ground. In the middle, a silvery figure could be seen.

Kalar focuses his divine power, then causes a circle of swirling blades to appear around the battlefield, completely enclosing the kythons.

"That won't hold them for long, but it will slow them down."


Spell Used: Maximized Blade Barrier, creating a ringed wall, radius is 5 ft/2 levels, durations 14 min

Any creature passing through takes 84 damage, reflex half.

Harvey rises from the coffin like a genie from a bottle and rolls spookily across the floor towards the rest of the party. Too hot in the kitchen, gotta get out.. can't even get a shot off without getting lizard gang-banged. If he can reform safely once he's safely behind friendly lines, he will do so.

"Teatime's already started and our host arrives oh so late..." Lynda muses.

Lynda takes a holy arrow and aims it towards the silver figure.

Rob blows his Harmonica Of Greater Shout directly towards the swarm. he hopes to take out the locusts, to clear a view of their opponent.

If any of the Kythons get hit too, that is just a nice bonus.

He will try not to hit Wren, although he suspects that the bare bear dwarf has rushed in too recklessly.

Harvey was no longer in mistform and the Kython looming over him took notice. Harvey tumbled out of the coffin and managed to tumble his way out of the room, only receiving a small slash as he passed the Kython near the coffin. As he exited the room, a barrier of blades appeared behind him.

The Kython's spewed acid on Wren. His bear flesh melted as he fought the Kython's bravely. Another Kython slipped through the portal, and the walls set up by Kalar. It joined the attack on Wren. Another Kython smashed one of Kalar's minions, while the last Kython followed after Harvey, only to stop short due to the blade barrier.

Dan shot a flurry of scorching rays at the nearest Kython, injuring it greatly while Azedarac cast a spell on himself. Rob and Lynda focused their attention on the swarm. Lynda's attack shot right through, seeming to miss it's mark. Rob's attack didn't miss, blasting the swarm to pieces.

Without the swarm, the silvery form could be clearly seen. It stood only 5ft high. It's four insectile arms extended unnaturally far out from it's body. In each of them, it held a different weapon. A green sword, a hideous flail, a golden cup, and a wand. On it's bug-like head, it wore a golden crown. It seemed unaffected by the sonic attack and answered the attack with a sonic attack of it's own.

A soundburst shot out of it's mouth and impacted near Lynda, affecting Dan, Azedarac, Kalar, Lynda, and Harvey.


Harvey takes 8 dmg
Dan, Azedarac, Kalar, Lynda, and Harvey take 7 sonic dmg.

Lynda, feeling upstaged, puts on her own crown. Lifting in to the air slightly to get a better vantage, she fires more holy arrows at the silver avatar.

"Lets get this party started." Lynda says.

"Someone get that fool druid out of there, he's going to get himself killed fighting alone. We have to coordinate our attacks if we're to have any hope."

Kalar focuses on his holy symbol, channeling divine power through it. He releases it into the room, creating a massive eruption of slime.

Each square of slime can adhere to one creature, Reflex 25 negates

Each round deals 6 Constitution damage to creatures adhered to, 12 damage to metal (ignoring hardness), 12 damage to wood (hardness applies).

Harvey grumbles at the nick he took from one of the frickin lizard bastards. Time to see what these arrows can do. Having no idea what to expect from their magic, he doesn't even bother using his psionic abilities to enhance the shot. He simply draws two of the new slay living arrows and sends them on their way towards the kython nearest the blade wall.

Rob begins to sing Inspire Heroics on himself

My name is Robert Rottlerwits,
I am a decent guy,
I'll do my best in battle,
and hopefully I won't die!

He doesn't change his position yet, just holds where he is, close to his team-mates

Kalar's wave of slime covered the Kythons. Wren was also hit, however the silver monster side stepped the spell, avoiding it completely. Wren was looking close to death as the Kythons tore into him. They sprayed him with poison and stabbed him with barbs. The silver avatar went over to Wren and splashed him with the contents of the goblet it held in one of it's insectile arms. It seemed to be a powerful acid that melted Wren's bear skin away. Wren looked very close to death, but held on by a thread.

One of Lynda's arrows struck. A short screech was followed by the serious stare of compound eyes towards Lynda.
Harvey's arrows both struck. However, the Kython seemed to resist whatever magic the arrows contained and remained standing. The Kython lashed out at the ghast, it's poisonous attacked seemed less effective to the undead.
A small devilish bug flew over the blade barrier stopped just in front of Lynda. Azedarac quickly turned and fired off a dark black bolt at the creature. It vaporized completely.
Dan shot a green ray at a Kython that had left it's conflict with Wren and turned towards the rest of the adventurers. Dan's spell disintegrated the creature.

Some of the Kythons looked wounded from Kalar's spell, while more seemed to be trying to come in through the portal in the ceiling.
