A crazy idea strikes Rob. Crazy enough to work? Maybe, or maybe not... but he doesn't have a lot of other ideas

Rob tells Lynda "Back in a second!"

Then he dashes around the corner of the nearest building. As soon as he finds a place out-of-sight of the crowds, he will cast Glibness on himself, then he will dash back to where Lynda is standing near the monks, and calmly announce

"Ring inspector here!"

"I don't what you're talking about, but we'll be safe down here," the man said. "This dungeon has survived two of the beast's previous attacks. However, you're not welcome to stay. Leave now, before I call the others sleeping in the barracks." The man didn't seem intimidated but Kalar or Harvey's display of aggression. This man had clearly been through interrogations before.

A monk approach Rob. He was dressed like all the others, but his demeanor suggested some sort of leadership status among the group. "This is a terrible time for this. Our city is in peril, do you not see the sky?" The monk looked at Rob up and down. "Please try not to disturb monk's prayers too much as you go about your business." With that, the monk stepped to the side and gestured for Rob to begin ring inspecting. Lynda stood back and eyed the crowd while Rob moved in to take a closer look. Rob focused on the four rings that looked like they might be the rings. Upon closer inspection, one of them seemed to be dark blue instead of black. However, it wasn't until Rob got to the third of these four rings that Lynda noticed something odd. Behind this monk, the dirt on the street had just been displaced by something. As if he had an invisible tail.

Harvey doesn't have time for this and grumbles "Back in my day, secret cults and guilds were all about community service!" as he sloooowly climbs back up the stairs, curious about the answer to Kalar's question but not willing to risk getting jumped by a barracks full of guys 5 stories down in someone else's stronghold to press the issue.

"She is The Heat of the Luck, Word of Secret,The Seventh Beginning, The Splintered Ice, She is the one and only Mistress Spyte, Leader of the Guild of Spyte. You are a fool not to know of her deeds. Leave now, before she comes out here and tears your limbs off one by one," said the man. Then he sat back down in his chair, pretending to ignore Kalar.

Harvey sticks his head head back around the corner: "Psssht! Whatevs! When she wakes up and the city's destroyed, let her know you could've stopped it." and then he runs as quick as he can up the steps.

"Very well, we shall leave. Though I must thank you for your... hospitality."

Kalar reaches out and touches the man, releasing divine power into him, willing him to turn into solid iron.

"Oh, don't worry your monkness, I am a professional. This will be the least disruptive Ring Inspection ever!"

"In fact, to keep the disruption to a minimum in this time of crisis, I'll just take the rings, inspect them back at the office, and bring them back in the morning. It is the simplest way! I'm saving you time, really."

Lynda's mind beings to spin. How did he manage to pull off something so unbelievable? She approaches Rob, and takes Rob by the arm.

"Excellent work on inspecting those rings, dear." She says overly sweetly. She leans in close to him, and grips his arm even tighter.

"There is a good chance one of those monks you inspected has what appears to be an invisible tail. We're going to go up to him, and you better have a good lie prepared." She whispers with dire seriousness.

She then pulls away from him and laughs.

"Right dear?" She says cheerfully.

The man's changed to solid iron before the expression on his face could even change. The new statue looked at Kalar with that annoying sneer the man had. Then Kalar and Harvey left, thankfully, without encountering anyone else.

Rob collected all the rings from the monks, except one. "No, go away," said the monk Lynda had seen the weird disturbance behind.
"Brother, it's perfectly ok. He'll give it back tomorrow. We should not be so attached to material objects," said the head monk.
"No," said the odd monk with the invisible tail. He rose from his prayer position and took a strange fighting pose. Rob had seen monks fight like this before to great effect.

"That's a terrible shame. I understand being materialistic. Perhaps that ring is...invaluable." Lynda muses. She squeezes on to Rob's arm and looks at him with desperation in her eyes. "Right, dear?"

Kalar leaves along with Harvey and heads back to the hill. Hopefully the others have learned something, and regrouping seems like the best option for now. With luck, midnight will arrive before anything else happens.

Harvey does NOT have time for this! The whole plan hinged around rallying the Thieves Guild into action, a network of pickpockets, cut-throats and no-good-niks to scatter around town and find this thing.. and instead it's just me. "Well Paleface," Harvey sighs, pushing the brick to close the magic door and cut the dead man in half.. the thought isn't as exciting now as it was before.

"What do we do now? There's still that window.. wouldn't mind takin a look at it before we left.. but other than that, I'm planned out."

Harvey watches Kalar leave.. oh well. I'll check out the window by myself.. which way was it? The evil man slips off into the night to find trouble before it finds him.

Kalar nods and says:

"Very well, let's examine the window. But after that, I suggest we head back to the hill and inform the others of what we've learned. Before he became a statue, the man called his mistress, 'The Splintered Ice', which leads me to think that she is associated with Levistus, on of the arch dukes of the hells. For now, it might be best to withdraw and pool our resources."

Kalar considers something.

"Incidentally, my friend, are you aligned with any deities? With how things are progressing recently, it might not be a bad idea to align yourself with one if you haven't already. As far as we know right now, we are potentially facing two of these arch dukes, not something to be treated lightly."
