"My thoughts exactly. Which is why I feel we should leave immediately. I say we head on out, Lynda is in no danger and will have no trouble catching up with us."

"I cannot say for certain..." Lynda thinks. "This seems fairly genuine, although the sheer number of these people...I can't be certain if foul play was involved or not. Though for now, these people will have to make do without us...we've already done so much, and we're under the burden of having a target on our backs..."
Lynda then flies off to rejoin the group. Once she gets near them, she'll manifest as corporeal.

It had been 3 years since he came to this land. He still hadn't found a proper place to settle down at all. Harvey was still getting into trouble with the locals. A few nights ago he made a plan to sneak inside Azedarc's catheral to perhaps steal some powerful items, kill troublesome people, or maybe learn some valuable information. Harvey hadn't learned much about the curse that surrounded this place in the years he had been here. His plan to escape with a magic necklace had failed. He had quested for that necklace for the better part of a year. Questing back then was better, he thought. Back before he lost, Daryl and Glenn. The necklace they he had lost so much to gain only left him feeling empty.
Past the mist, Harvey only found an alien place. In was dark, but an eerie light seemed to be emited from the cavernous ceiling that hung hundreds or perhaps thousands of feet in the air as far as the eye could see. The floor and ceiling both seemed to be made of flowing silver. He would have explored this strange place, but he was not alone. swarms of terrible looking bugs could be seen all over the place. Harvey took one look at the bugs that seemed to be the size of a small house and stepped back to the other side of the mist barrier. He had lost most of his hope of ever getting out of this place then. That is, until he heard of other people questing to break the curse. The rumors seemed to suggest Azedarc was involved. Harvey hoped to learn more on while inside the catheral.
"That amulet could be very useful to our cause, Voulton," said a strange looking man. He stood almost as tall as Voulton, but much much skinnier. The clover brooch on his cloak and his magnificent flowing silver hat where his calling cards that people far and wide knew him by. Voulton thought to himself how odd it was that he never thought to ask what Azedarc looked like before. Thankfully, Azedarc wasn't the type to misuse that sort of information.
"I've been looking in on your group from time to time. They are playing a very dangerous game. I understand your confusion. You asked why you were attacked after saving that town and why magic is outlawed here. The two are not unrelated. You see, the 'curse' as you call it as actually the only thing standing between this kingdom and complete devastation."
"Long before you came here, an attempt was made to break the curse. As the tomb was called forth, the fog barrier came down. The kingdom was thrown into chaos. To make matters worse, an arch devil took the chance to create an avatar at the tomb in an attempt to reach the material plane and spread vile destruction throughout the world. Thankfully, I was there. I intentionally failed the tombs' trial, sending it back into stasis, the avatar with it. You see, if the tomb is ever called again, the avatar will be freed."
Voulton and Azedarc were walking around a large cathedral. They talked as they walked, much to delight of ease droppers. A rogue went unnoticed nearby thanks to an invisibility potion he 'found'. "What should the people called in do though, they are only trying to do what they feel is best," asked Voulton. Azedarc seemed to know the question was coming, "Of course, I understand the problem all too well. The castle pulls people in about once a month. These people are then put through a number of trials that either kill them or grant them magical items or abilities. This is why I played up the ancient stereotype against magic, to be able to better locate these adventurers if they manage to make it to Averoigne. Once 'capture' I try to explain to them that breaking the curse is not something I can allow. You would be surprised how many would rather die than listen to reason. I know it seems grim, but the kingdom is large. These people can live happy lives here if they just toss away those terrible scrolls and stop trying to break the enchantment that protects us all." Azedarc stopped and turned towards Voulton. "I'm glad you seem reasonable. You'll be a welcome addition to the inquistioners."
It was the most information Harvey had gained in the years since he got here. He slipped away then, knowing better than to try to kill Azedarc with so many people walking around. As he did, he eyed Jehan. Here was someone he had wanted to put a dagger in for some time now. Through a window, Harvey watched as Jehan used a mirror to gaze at a small group of people in a bedroom. Jehan then took one of a few red gems off and vanished. Harvey's keen eyes noticed that Jehan appeared outside the window of the room in the mirror then.
Harvey had the presence of mind to take an extra 2 of the magic gems as he followed.
The party had left the town. They set off south, towards the last and final item they needed to break the curse. Little did they know, Jehan was close behind them, stalking them in the woods. Not too far behind, Harvey was stalking Jehan.
"Now that we've gained some distance from the town, I have some matters I must attend to. If any of you are a bit squeamish, you might want to look away."
Kalar thinks a while and says:
"Actually, just give me a minute."
He leads the six mules some ways away, but still in sight of the party just in case the Inquisition is lurking nearby. He then takes his holy symbol out, bathing the area in Darkness, away from prying eyes.
He ties the mules together, tying the rope to a piton to secure them to the ground. He then holds his holy symbol aloft, Desecrating the area.
Then he kills the six mules.
Focusing his divine power into the bodies and the iron bands he purchased, he animates the six into an unholy amalgamation of undead flesh and iron.

Rachelle, upon seeing Kalar's newest acquaintance, barely resists gagging. "What have you done now? Do you want to get us instantly noticed, and then killed?" The fact that there was an elf, a lizard, and an undead skeleton sticking out was bad enough, but at least they were all roughly human-sized.
But this? Why?
But this? Why?
"We've already been noticed, and it's almost certain that we've already been targeted to be killed. I do believe that with that Jehan fellow on our trail, stealth is no longer an option. Personally, I would rather face him and whatever lackeys you has with this behind me rather than without it. It will serve well to keep us all alive, so you'll just have to strengthen yourselves against nausea.
"Now, let's get moving. I'm certain this Jehan will be following us, waiting for the chance to strike. I suggest Lynda keeps watch from the sky. That way, we'll at least have some sort of warning when he attacks."

The noise of the slaughter took a while to leave the minds of the party. Kalar had quite a deal of blood on him from the mules. They screeched and cried as Kalar slit their throats. Flocks of birds scattered from the area. After the deed was done, all of the noises of the forest they were traveling through, had stopped. It would be a while before birds dared chirp again after that.
Jehan watched the event from behind a tree. He had seen a lot of terrible things, but even he was revolted by what stepped out of the darkness. Harvey, not far behind Jehan. Considered taking this chance to attack Jehan, but the horror that had just been created took his attention.
No one felt comfortable around the creature as they traveled. The hissing and squirting noises it made every so often were enough to make anyone ill. It stood as a grim reminder of Kalar's true nature.
The day went on. The group referred to the map to see that they had a good long journey ahead of them before they would reach Perigon. Along the trail they would follow, the group would encounter at least two towns. They spent a good deal of the day considering avoiding these towns now. The day was largely uneventful after Kalar's scene. Hours passed peacefully.

H.P. Bilchik has seen a lot of shit, but the monster just summoned takes the cake. "Ain't got parts like anything regular.. how're ya supposed to try an' hurt somethin like that?" he wonders quietly to himself, counting the various parts that can still be identified as mule-like in origin.
"Gettin' real tired of looking at this guy's head.." he thinks to himself as the trail wears on and he finds himself struggling to stay focused. "Got his head shaved so close it wouldn't even be fun to scalp him. If it weren't for the leather, I'd say he had no style at all.. heheh." It'd be so easy to let loose an arrow and split that bald melon... but not yet. "Patient boy, you know how it goes. He attacks them, you attack him. Wouldn't wanna jump the gun... watch them run off, get stuck with a fair fight for your troubles, wouldja?"
For now, Bilchik bides his time being careful to remain unobserved, keepin his eyes and ears open, and trying to decide where to put the arrow when Jehan makes his move.

"Of course. In fact, I believe it would indeed be best if someone stayed outside of town to keep an eye out for Jehan. I have no need for food our sleep, so it makes sense I be the one to do so."

"Dear divines..." Lynda says. "Even though my deity is pretty benevolent for a death goddess, I think this atrocity would offend even her...which reminds me, perhaps I can find someone in Perigon to fashion me a holy symbol. Now that I have access to powers courtesy of the divines, I should use them."
"This...thing...it might be horrendous, even more so to be seen with...but if it can keep us safe from everything else in Averoigne...then I guess we can put up with it? So long as we take the necessary precautions to keep it away from the rest of civilization..."
