But of course it's locked.

Kalar focuses for a while, and then runs back to the others. He turns back to face the door and holds up his holy symbol. He then channels divine energy into it, focusing new and powerful force into it before touching it to his forehead. The divine energy pours into him, improving his spellcasting powers.

Finished with that, he holds up his holy symbol again.

"I don't know what's going to happen, lads, but best to take cover."

That said, he takes cover behind his tower shield and sends a blast of pure sound towards the door. Should that fail, he'll try again. Should the second time fail, he'll try a final time. With luck, even if the door isn't sufficiently damaged, the more brittle surrounding stone, particularly where the hinges are, will be damaged enough to cause the door to fall open.




Spells Used:
Triadspell (Spell Compendium, Clr 5): Can cast any 3rd or lower level spell three times before it is expended.
Sound Lance (Savage Species): 9d6 damage, strikes unerringly

After the second sound lance, The door finally gives way under Kalar's magical assault. The thick metal door topples back and forward before slamming down on the 5ft tile in front of the doorway. It slides off the tile and tumbles down the pit causing a massive CLANG when it hits the bottom spikes. As the party's light enters the room, dust gives way to golden reflections. The party can see piles of gold and gems from what little they can see of the room from their angle.

"Excellent. Bill and I will take point, see what's there and if there are any traps."

Kalar orders a couple of skeletons onto Bill, and has Bill jump/fly to the other end and into the room. Provided nothing horrific shows up, he will follow and search for traps with his sword before looking over the contents of the room and taking stock of what's there.

Nothing attacks Kalar's undead minions as they approach the entrance to the room. Kalar waits a bit before following. When he does he finds a room roughly the size of the trapped one he just crossed. In the middle of this new room sits a large sarcophagus. All around the sarcophagus, gold, jewels, jewelry, and various other items lay on the ground. Kalar notes the large axe towards the back of the room as being very unique in appearance and thinks of the axe Voulton has been talking so much about. The sarcophagus itself is made of marble. It's covered in etchings. Chimeras frozen in blocks of ice along with various symbols and runes cover the sarcophagus. It looks very well made, and Kalar thinks he might see gold inlaid in a good deal of the etchings.
Kalar does not detect any traps while using his magic sword.

Kalar uses his wand to search for any magic in the room. He also uses his sword to identify the axe along with the sarcophagus and any other items that may be found.

Because of that experience back in the castle though, he decides to be cautious and casts a spell to detect thoughts. He would rather not be surprised by another monstrosity hiding underneath the treasure.

Should any magic items be found, he'll order his skeletons to lead them up into Bill's saddlebags along with as much gold and treasure as possible to be split up back at camp.

Kalar begins to find and identify the items from just inside the doorway of the room. He finds:

    a +5 vorpal great axe
    a ring of the ram
    a ring of evasion
    a +3 mighty composite longbow (+2 Str bonus)
    a potion of sunlight
    a lyre of building
    a rod of the viper
    a helmet of water breathing
    a ring of flight
    a potion of keen edge
    a robe of useful items
    a bag of tricks (tan)
    a bag of holding (bag 2)


Kalar begins to detect thoughts. He doesn't detect anything but knows that if the sarcophagus is thick enough that it would block the spell.

Kalar puts on the ring of flight before heading back to the others with the items loaded up into Bill.

Kalar hands Voulton the axe and says: "Voulton, I do believe this axe well be of use to you. I am unsure if it is the one you seek, but it will certainly be deadly in your hands."

He describes the other items to the rest of the party and tells them to take their pick.

"There is also a sarcophagus in they, but I have yet to open it. I would rather we ask be ready should I attempt to do so. And I would rather it be a group decision if we open it or not."

While waiting on the decision, Kalar orders Bill and two skeletons back into the room. The two skeletons will load the coins, gems, and jewellery into Bill's saddlebags and the bag of holding. Hopefully, all of it will fit.

Kalar had plans to grabs some of the items and head back to the others, but as he touched the ring of flight, the sarcophagus burst open. A mummy rose out of the sarcophagus. Kalar could see a level of intelligence behind it's eyes. It looked menacingly at him.

Kalar lays down the ring and says:

"Hold, creature."

Kalar removes his mask and says:

"I am like you, and I mean no harm. Who are you and what task had been set to you?"

Kalar makes sure his final sound lance is ready to go just in case diplomacy doesn't work. He also tries to remember all he knows of these creatures and if this one seems any different.

The mummy ignored Kalar and held up a cold looking dagger while it chanted. Kalar felt an overwhelming presence in his head. A pull towards his undead nature called to him. This mummy was promising him a safe eternal existence. Why had he been running around so recklessly?
Kalar and Bill were frozen in awe as the mummy rebuked them and the skeletons Kalar had brought over with him. The skeletons feel under complete control of the mummy.
The others watched Bill slump and then look up in awe. Moments later one of the skeletons looked at them in a very menacing way. Something was definitely wrong.

Rachelle considers smashing the offending skeleton to pieces, but doesn't go across the abyss just yet. Something seems horribly wrong here, and she'd rather not risk falling in herself if things continue to be wrong.

Rachelle, emboldened by Rob's song, begins to carefully cross the rope, doing the rope tied around her trick like she did before in case she loses her balance or the manticore does something. Once there, she'll see what's going on in the far room.
