|"I'll take these potions and store them in the chest back at the wagon."

Kalar takes the potions and places them in his pack.

"That chest though, along with that other door and the cage, seem to be trapped. I have no idea what sort of trap they hold though. If it were simply poison like the one that got Lynda, it would be no trouble for me. However, I'm not sure just what sort of trap it is. Still..."

With no other humanoid minions around, Kalar orders Bill to smash the chest open. Or at least, attempt to smash the top off with a swipe of its claws, so as to avoid damaging anything inside.

As Bill approaches the chest, Bill is impaled by thick metal spears coming from the ceiling and the floor. More than ten spears pierce through his leathery hide, tearing the zombie manticore's body in horrible ways. Bill is not destroyed, but is very badly injured. The spears stay in place, trapping Bill. They stab into the ceiling a bit forming a sort of cage, much like the one on the other side of the room. They seem to be hard metal, but unlike the bars of the cage on the other side of the room, no electricity arched between the spears. The spears also stood a bit farther apart from each other than the cage, and some of the spears were up in the middle of the loosely formed square the spears made.
Bill never manages to lay a finger on the chest, and is currently unable to attack.

"Well..."

Kalar heads towards Bill, while checking with his sword to avoid stepping on any further traps.

Once he gets to Bill, he'll start healing him up using his glove to inflict negative energy into the zombicore. Removing the spears now might not be a good idea, as they could potentially damage him further.

As soon as he's done "healing" Bill up, he'll say to Voulton, "Friend Voulton, if you could be so kind as to attempt to cut or smash these metal spears in two. That way, they won't be able to retract and potentially spear one of us."

He will, of course, use his sword to make sure there are no further traps that might potentially injure either Voulton or himself.

Kalar's healing does little good as the spears remain in Bill's body. Voulton and Rob look on at what would have been an instantly deadly trap for their living bodies. They wondered just how different their friend Kalar had become.
Kalar does detect another trap, though it seems to be focused on the chest, it's exact trigger remains a mystery.

Bill only receives 10 points of healing.

Rob casts Unseen Servant. but does not give it any instructions yet.

"Ouch! That was ugly."

"Look, I think I have a safer way to trigger that trap without hurting any of us, but we should all clear out of here first."

"Do either of you have any ideas for getting Bill extracted from that mess of spears? I could cast the Freedom Of Movement spell on him, which might help him worm his way out of there, but it is a long shot, and not really meant for impalings."

Rob rifles through his collection of magic scrolls

"Lets see... Telekinesis might be able to push those spikes back up, but Bill would have to get out from under them quick before the crash down... or maybe I could use Grasping hand... that is supposed to be very strong, and it might be able to break or bend the spikes."

Kalar considers Rob's words, and says, "Freedom of Movement might be worth a try, but I agree, it's possibly a long shot. It's your call though, as I would not want to ask you to expend one of your scrolls on something we are unsure of.

"As for my own spells, unfortunately, I do not have many utility spells ready, as when praying for my spells today I focused solely on combat and combat support. I do have a potion back at the wagon that could increase Bill's strength allowing him to break through those, but that is a dubious course of action at best, as he could just as easily tear himself apart on those spears."

Rob comes a little closer to Bill, and attempts to count exactly how many spears are currently piercing Bill.

"If Bill was merely pinned between them, the Freedom of Movement spell would let him wriggle through them like the finest escape artist..." Rob says as he looks closely. "But since some of these actually pierce him, I think he will still have to tear through..."

Suddenly Rob exclaims "AH-HA!"

Rob holds his Rapier of Light Infliction close to Bill's nearest piercing.

"Kalar!" Rob says excitedly. "Here is when the damnable undead-curing properties of my rapier are going to come in handy. If I cut Bill free with it one-spear-at-a-time, the magic will heal him nearly as much as I hurt him."

"Keep your glove ready in case I accidentally cut too fast"

Rob begins carefully carving Bill away from one of the spears.

"That will work. Or at least, I hope it will."

Kalar does as Rob instructs, and keeps "healing" Bill up using his glove while Rob extricates the zombicore.

Rob begins cutting Bill free, with Kalar close at hand just in case. The work is very slow. Rob's rapier is meant for mainly piercing through flesh, not sawing through bone. Rob begins to get tired after Bill is mostly free. Voulton remains on guard, keeping one eye out the door in case something wanders towards them while the other two free Bill. Kalar takes over and Bill is cut free after what seems to be a little over fifteen minutes of total work. Bill is very shaggy looking. The actual damage from the ordeal is healed, but all over Bill's body, huge signs of the spears can be seen. Bill lost quite a bit of his flesh in the process, not that he'll miss it, but the difference in appearance is clear.

"Well, that's that. Rob, you said you had a means of triggering the trap without danger to us?"

"Very well, let's get out of here then."

With that, Kalar leaves the room along with Bill, letting Rob do what he needs to.

After everyone leaves the room, Rob's unseen attempts to open the chest. Electricity begins to arch violently between the metal spears then. The electricity also archs between the spears and the chest which the group makes a note of as being metal. Rob feels the command link between himself and his unseen servant dissipate.
