"The sword and perhaps the mirror will be kept with the silver dragon, with your consent, until such a time comes when they will be used. When that time comes I will personally bring them to you all," Dan says looking at Kalar, not Voulton who addressed him. "I can help you greatly. Far greater than a magic sword or mirror ever could. If you trust in my intentions, trust in my knowledge, and trust in my ability to help, we might just break this curse."
Dan turned his attention to Lynda then. He casts a spell that seemed to have no effect. "What has happened to her?"

Kalar had not intended to speak up, but this is ridiculous. The man has interfered with his patient, after it having been said that he needed and wanted no such aid.

"First you insult me by calling me a liar. Then you tell us to surrender the items that we have bled to acquire, especially one that has been instrumental in keeping us alive. Then you cast an unknown spell on my patient after being told not to. A spell that could have any of a multitude of effects."

Kalar turns to the others and says, "Am I the only one who views this as, at best, suspicious? At worst, it's downright hostile."

Kalar turns back to Dan and says, "With all that you've shown and said, we have just as much reason to trust you as we have to believe that you're an agent of Azderac. And don't attempt to pull, 'I just held back the wall' as evidence you don't work for Azderac. If he rules this place, if he has power here, he has just as much reason to keep the walls back as anyone else. A man with no kingdom to rule has no power.

"Everyone we've met, either at the castle or here, has had their own secrets. Their own agendas. If they were not outright hostile, they were absolutely deceptive. Gaspard, never told us of his connection with Nathaire. Moriamis, claiming to be on our side but hiding secrets and harboring criminals. Sephora, sent us to the past, nearly getting us killed, without explaining anything. The Inquisition, claims that it stands to protect the people here but after we destroy a threat to the kingdom, they decide to hold a sham trial and then have us executed.

"And now, you expect us to smile, welcome you with open arms, and dance to your tune, without any questions of any sort. You expect us to just surrender what we've worked to gain just because you come along and say, 'Hey, I just happen to be a good and altruistic individual. Now hand over the three artifacts you have.' just because you ask for them?

"What kind of complete idiots do you take us for? I wouldn't trust the fate of this kingdom to anyone who would be naive enough to agree to a deal like that without any sort of assurance. You want us to trust you after all that? Prove it. Prove your worth and that you're not just a treacherous swine. Because frankly, right now? I find that we have no reason to trust you, and every reason to be suspicious and wary of knives in our backs."

"Ok necromancer, I'll play your game. How would you like me to prove my trustworthiness?" Dan said.

MEANWHILE, SOMEWHERE ELSE...

Galse jerks his hand to his temple with alarm. That little vein is twitching again! It hasn't done that forever... back when he was adventuring, it happened all the time. Right before someone did something stupid! I don't see anyone doing anything stupid.. but better not waste the chance! He looks around for someone to try to intimidate with that twitchy little vein before it goes away again.

"We spend the night here. In the morning, I will cast a spell. It will prevent anyone in the area from lying. That way, you will know that I am telling the truth, and we will know the same about you. You are a spellcaster, I am sure you are familiar with the spell. Even if you aren't though, you are certainly competent enough to identify its effects.

"Second, an exchange of information. You tell us what you know, we tell you what we know. If you are indeed working to break this curse, then that is your chance to prove it. You already know we are attempting to do such, as we've been gathering the items and building the strength needed to do so.

"Third, if we are to leave the artifacts, it will not be with a party known only to you and not to us. If we are to leave the three items, you will provide us with three things of equal value to you as assurance that we will get those items back. Further, they will be left not with you, but with a party known to both of us that we both trust.

"Those are my terms."

Meanwhile...
"Stop that at once!"
A little boy was tossing snakes at his sister that he had horded in his pocket.
"Ha, ha, TamTam yelled at you," said another little boy who had watched the whole thing with glee.
"Shut up!" The boy said and threw a snake the other boy's way.
A fourth child ran up on it's hands and feet with a snake in it's mouth and growled at the others.
"Where did you even find all these snakes?" asked Tammytharn.
"There was a whole pit of them in the woods," the boy with a pocket full of snakes gleefully proclaimed.
Tammytharn knew, she had a lot of work to do before these kids would be allowed in a town.

The arguing over, Voulton explains what he understands about Lynda: "She's got some kinda conflicting curses. One is an amulet that makes her unaffected by magic, for good or for ill. Even the Sword of Sylaire seems subject to its power. When she takes it off, she can be subject to magic... but physical stuff goes right through her and she through it."

Voulton looks around again, still not sure where the Duchess has gotten to. Hopefully whatever she's doing won't attract bears.

"So you want to continue this tomorrow morning. Alright, if everyone is ok with that, I'll see you tomorrow," said Dan before vanishing.
Dan seemed to be gone. Claire, brushed Lynda's hair. She seemed to move off and stay silent once voices began to get raised. Lynda was sleeping. The party wondered how much of the conversation she had heard or if she was even aware that Dan had been there. Stumpy walked over to Rob with a questioning look as the party began their plans for the night.

"'Trustworthy' my rotting left foot."

Kalar puts any further thoughts of the man away for now. To business.

He orders one of his skeletons to retrieve the twelve magical books from Bill's saddlebags and has them set out on the wagon. He also orders all the undead off the boat, as it seems they won't be using it.

"Rob, you have those magical glasses right? I would appreciate it if you use them to take a look at these books. I know that they're magical, but I have no idea what they do."

He then takes the periapt he had given to Lynda, and wears it. His own, weaker version, he sets aside. Lynda had made it clear that she had no further interest in it, so might as well put it to use. Besides, the power it grants will certainly be of use the next day.

Kalar turns to the rest and says, "The rest of you had better get some rest. I'll have my minions get to setting up a perimeter in case anything attacks. I'll keep watch the entire night, so you can all get a full night's sleep. If any of you are injured, come see me and I will heal your wounds."

While the undead are putting together camp, Kalar decides to use what money was in Bill's saddlebags to create another magical item that will aid the party.

"I already gave the glasses back to Lynda, but I am sure she won't mind if I borrow them again."

Rob peeks into the flap of Lynda's bag. "Here they are, right on top" Rob says as he takes them, feeling just a little guilty for going into her stuff while she is asleep.

He puts on the glasses, and examines the books.

"Interesting. Well, if we have nothing else to discuss or organize, I'd say that you should all turn in for the night. I'll keep watch and alert you to any danger should the need arise."

With that, Kalar orders his undead into a perimeter and begins working on his magic item.

The night was peaceful. Voulton sat up with Kalar and his undead groupies for a while. Rob and Rachelle also voiced concerns about the perception skills of the undead. As dawn approached it seemed it wouldn't matter. Nothing approached anywhere near the camp. The party slowly began to wake. Dan appeared just as the first rays of sunlight hit the valley. He stood silently, waiting for the party to get ready.
