Rob is roughly shoved tot he ground by Voulton. He was already going to roll on the ground, so he didn't put up much of a fight. The flames were slapped and smashed out preventing any further damage from the fire.

Rob takes 1 point of damage from Voulton.

Meanwhile, Kalar's fight continued. The remaining controlled bloodhulks were surrounded at this point. They continued to destroy skeletons and zombies but Kalar could tell it wouldn't be long before the bloodhulks would be defeated. Kalar had exhausted the remaining awe struck skeletons at that point. He currently controlled 12 skeletons and 3 zombies not counting his bloodhulk horde. A look at his bloodhulks showed that two of them were taking a lot of hits from the opposing bloodhulks. Another uncontrolled bloodhulk fell to Kalar's skeleton's many scratches while others looks battered and beaten. The fight wouldn't last much longer, but the damage to his bloodhulks, Kalar knew, would be extensive.

"Thanks" Rob mumbles to Voulton. The sarcasm is impossible for him to hide, but he *does* appreciate that Voulton was trying to help.

In spite of the Cure Serious Wounds, Rob still feels pretty terrible. He decides to also cast Cure Moderate Wounds on himself.

"Okay. that is better." Rob says, extending his hand and waiting for Voulton to help him back up.

"We need a better way to sweep for traps. I can use one of these cheap scrolls to summon some kind of a beast and we can send it running out ahead of us-- unless anybody has a better idea?"

Rob inspects his clothing and possessions for damage. Most of his stuff was in the bag of holding, so he is hoping it is okay (including his "Rob's Standard" which he had rolled up and put in the bag when he left Stumpy)

"Will one of them actually trigger traps made for adventurers?" Rachelle asks. Knowing that there's traps in here certainly makes her leading the party into this place a non-starter, especially seeing what Rob got caught in.

Voulton indeed helps Rob back up, and even offers a quiet "Sorry" in realizing that he may've over-reacted... a bit. "It's worth a try." Sensing some reluctance from the party, and feeling pretty safe behind all his steel, Voulton proclaims "I'll take the lead, run into anything the test animal misses"

Rob takes out a Scroll of Summon Monster I, and calls up a Medium Fiendish Monstrous Scorpion, and sends it skittering down the hall.

"I'll try this one. It is almost as big as us, with lots of legs to touch off floor triggers, and that tall tail to snag any wires stretched across the way."

"And is isn't even slightly cute, so I won't feel bad if it gets ground to a pulp by something."

Kalar moves closer to his most injured bloodhulk and pours negative energy into it, healing it up.

He looks around at the continued carnage, pleased at how relatively well things are going. It could have gone better, but it's a great deal more effective than previous encounters involving his minions.

The scorpion skitters down the wall, activating no further traps. Voulton lights the way with his lantern, creeping slowly past the trap, making sure that it can't activate again. After no more flames burst out of the pillars, he continues down the stairs after the scorpion. He finds it in a room at the end of the stairs.
Six dead human bodies are hanging from hooks in the ceiling here. A large hearth in the middle of the room warms the area. The bodies seem to be drying. A simple wooden door is across the room.

Kalar rejoices as another uncontrolled bloodhulk falls. Though one of his summon zombies dies and two of his zombies, he seems unfazed as the bloodhulk melee continues.

Kalar turns to the closest hostile bloodhulk and holds out his holy symbol. He pours divine power into it and sends a bolt of dark energy screaming towards it.

Dark Bolt (BoVD): 4d8 damage, half cold half untyped. Target is immune to being stunned because of the fort save.

Voulton looks at the bodies on the hooks and wonders... What the hell is going on in here? Manticores sure as hell don't light fires. Are they being held here till it's convenient to reanimate their bones? Have they already been reanimated and are "playing dead" until they see something they want to eat? He turns to the others. "Should we knock 'em down? Destroy the bodies? Do *something*? Someone oughta check out that door too: Just because the last one wasn't trapped.."

If no one's done anything about the door in a reasonable amount of time, Voulton will check it for traps himself and then try to open it. But not before he's given the rogues a chance at it.

Lynda goes over and investigates the door, and will pick it with the Masterwork Tools that Kalar had given her if it is locked.

"Scorpion, prod that corpse" Rob commands. He wants to get the most out of the creature before it returns to its home plane.

"If they are zombies playing possum, this may stir them" says Rob by way of explanation. "They still won't be able to see us, I think."

Kalar heals his more damaged bloodhulk, turning the tables on that one on one bloodhulk melee. Meanwhile, more of the uncontrolled bloodhulks fall. The skeletons, bugbear summons, and zombies turn their attention from the freshly fallen bloodhulks to other bloodhulks causing more to fall. Soon, only one of the uncontrolled bloodhulks was left standing. A darkbolt shot into the bloodhulk sending chilling pain through it's undead husk of a body. It was heavily damaged and Kalar's minions all readied themselves to strike.

Lynda scooted past the hanging bodies to investigate the door. While she did, Rob instructed his scorpion to prod the hanging bodies to no effect. The party wasn't ready to right these corpses off as simply dead just yet, but all signs pointed towards them being just bodies. Lynda got he lockpicks out and put on her wizard glasses. She was prepared to do her best to open this door. When it turned out to be unlocked and untrapped, she felt a little sad that she didn't have the opportunity. The door opened to reveal humans chained tot he wall in the next room. Three humans are chained the wall here. They seem to be suffering from starvation. They don't seem to have the strength to look up as the party approaches. A quick peek inside also revealed a series of hallways to the north and another part of the room to the south. In the section of the room to the south, Lynda saw that a skeleton servant standing next to a pile of rations and several buckets of water. The skeleton makes no move towards Lynda as she peaks at it.

Looking through the door over Lynda's shoulder, Rob commands the scorpion. "Scorpion! Go scuttle past that skeleton. Don't attack it."

"Let's see if the Skeleton reacts to it."

The skeleton watches the scorpion scuttle past. The skeleton looks up and then looks around the room. It comes around the corner and looks into the open door then proceeds into the room where the bodies are hanging. It never once seems to notice the party's presence.
