Still haven't been spotted, that's a good thing.

Hrulgin looks out for the closest inquisitor near Kalar and hits him with yet another drow-poisoned dart.

Voulton stepped on to the wagon and began to slaughter the inquisitors surrounding it. Blood covered every inch of his body before he was done. It burst from the gashes of both the riders and their horses and covered a good deal of the wagon as well. Voulton dropped three inquisitors to the ground dead. His view turned crimson as blood flowed over his face. He looked over the battle in a fury and watched many of the inquisitors flee.
Rachelle seemed to confuse the inquisitor she had just disarmed as she appeared to retreat. Beaten, the inquisitor halt his retreat only to quickly dismount and retrieve his amulet before continuing his escape.
Kalar's summon ogre wasn't able to catch the fleeing horse but instead smashed another inquisitor to death that had yet to flee. Hrulgin too dropped another inquisitor with his poisoned darts. Kalar, deflecting mostly blood with his shield, healed his wound as the acid continued to burn.
Rob stabs the inquisitor that struck him. The wound he caused wasn't too deep and the inquisitor looked ready to attack back. Then Lynda flew in at a crazy speed and killed the man before he could strike.
All the inquisitors left alive retreated. The archer picked up his amulet as he left. Lynda caught a sharp stare from the archer before he road off. Rob's acidic arrows burned a bit before fading and Kalar's soon would too.

Rob takes 2 acid dmg

Voulton shouts to the retreating morons: "TELL AZEDARAC ABOUT NATHAIRE! DON'T MAKE YOUR FRIENDS DEATHS BE IN VAIN! SEND A SQUAD NORTH TO INVESTIGATE!". He doubts they'll tell him... hmm..

Voulton remembers one of the last things the hat man did (other than dying like a chump). "Do you think we can talk to Azedarc with that thing? Or maybe he saw the whole thing and won't be too sore at us.." he says, kicking dirt on the dead man and his shiny amulet... which reminds him of another important thing. He takes off Lynda's amulet and sheepishly returns it to her: "It got a little bloody..."

With that out of way, and mindful that they definitely don't want to linger around here too long, he starts rooting through the carnage at the wagon, starting with the inquisitors body and then his saddle bags. In particular he's looking for identification, orders, anything to get a feel for who these guys were and what they were doing.

If the others want to give pursuit, that's all he'll do. Otherwise, he'll check the rest of the saddlebags and the corpses and try to get an idea of what the hell happened and whether or not these guys have anything useful to our cause.

Kalar continues healing himself up with his glove before getting off the wagon. He makes sure to keep his shield well between himself and the archer, in case he decides to loose a few shots.

"Voulton, please keep an eye out for any who decide to come back, I'm going to make sure everyone is ok. But first, come over here and I'll have you healed back up to peak health in no time."

Kalar then calls out to the others and says, "Come see me and I'll tend to your wounds. Quickly now, before they decide to come back."

He then looks around and calls out, "Hrulgin, should be safer now, you can come out of hiding. Thanks for saving me back there. Now, there's some rope in the wagon, go ahead and tie up all those you managed to paralyze, if you would be so kind. I also purchased some manacles which should be in the wagon as well. Make sure they can't escape, and then load them up."

Hrulgin does as he's bidden and gets the restraints from the wagon. He ties up and shackles those he's paralyzed and then loads them up into the wagon.

He also makes sure to search them and remove any possible weapons. Just to be on the safe side, he also removes whatever armor they might have been wearing, along with any clothing that could potentially hide any surprises.

That done, he picks among the dead, looking for anything that might be of use. Money, weapons, potions, anything at all. Might be a good idea to stop for a bite to eat as well, but that can wait.

The inquisitors seem dreadfully under armed for battle. Besides their swords, they don't appear to have any other weapons. On top of that, none of them seem to have any armor on. They all wear only the white robes that mark them as inquisitors. Most of them seem to have small pouches of personal items. These contain things like parchment, quills, mundane trinkets, and small amounts of gold, no more than 5gp per pouch. They all also seem to have a sort of holy symbol. The symbols are made of wood or stone and seem to be a cross coming from a square with a zigzag on the square. This doesn't sppear to be the holy symbol of any god any party members know of and even Rob has never seen the symbol before.
The man in the hat doesn't seem to have anything of note on him aside from an ornate belt and his hat. In his saddlebags, Voulton finds only traveling gear as is the same with all the saddle bags.

Done with healing everyone, Kalar moves to the man in the hat. He holds up his sword attempts to identify the nature of the hat and the belt. As soon as that's done, he'll vanish the sword into his glove, the same one he once stored hid dagger in.

"It's all right Voulton..." Lynda says. "The rest of me is pretty bloody too. The next chance I'll get, I need to change my dress."

Lynda will put her glasses on to scour for magical items.

"Voulton, I am glad we are on the same side!" Rob exclaims, in awe of the carnage the big man created.

"THAT HORSE IS IN TWO PIECES" says Stumpy, sound a little tramataized.

...and wanting to stay in the same side as Voulton, Rob adds; "Add I heard some of those things you said in battle. I can see you are a merciful man, and I would be even happier calling you a friend in time of peace rather than time of war."

Rob collects the scattered scrolls, and stows them neatly in his pack for later study.

Then he approaches the restrained prisoners. He counts them. How many are there? What condition are they in?

"I suggest," Rob says loudly to his allies, "That we show these survivors the mercy that their compatriots refused to accept."

"Kalar, would you mind using your lucky glove for healing these unfortunate fellows as well?"

Voulton just laughs. Merciful is a weird word for the scene at the front of the wagon. In hindsight, what happened may have been... excessive. "You were right not to trust 'em. We probably would've been hung without even a trial. Good to have someone around who knows the lay of the land, I almost got us all killed."

And he agrees on the prisoners too. "These guys were following orders. Let's heal 'em, send 'em home to their families and show people that you magic guys aren't half bad. I don't even know what else we could do to 'em."

There's something that's been bothering Voulton for a while now, and it seems like a good time to ask. He points to the shiny metallic trees in the distance: "Kalar, did you mean to do that?"

Kalar looks up from identifying the items and says:

"What? Set these bastards free as if nothing happened? If I had my way, these oathbreakers would be left here tied to a tree to be left to wild animals."

Kalar takes a deep breath to calm himself.

"However, there is truth in what you say. They were indeed simply following orders, and there is some honor in that. I will heal them, but I refuse to simply let them free to return to their families. If they were willing to break oaths given to honest men, if they were willing to follow orders in the face of madness, if they believed so much in their laws that they were ready to die, then I say we let the laws of this kingdom judge them.

"We'll bring these three back to Vyones. Give them the trial they denied us. I bring the charges of attempted murder, blatant treachery, and vile oathbreaking forward. Let's see how the laws they were ready to die for will treat them."

Kalar then turns to Voulton and says:

"No, I did not. I had intended to blast them all apart like I did with the werewolves. Something is definitely wrong here. Did you notice that they were wearing holy symbols? I am well-versed in these theological matters, but even I do not recognize those symbols. This further confirms my assumption that there is some severe and rather serious conflict going on with the divine. Perhaps it is affecting my magic in some way. We need to find more answers about this curse, and the sooner the better."

As the sleeping inquisitors are gathered, the party finds that only two are living. One of them that seemed to be sleeping had taken the dart to the head and likely died instantly. The inquisitors were put on the bloodly, cluttered wagon. Hurlgin then proceeded to shackle them up.

Lynda finds a sword that seems to be magical. As she silently expresses an interest in how the sword was magical, the glasses activated and showed her al of it's properties. Likely, Kalar was learning the magical properties of the hat and the belt, which were both also magical.

Belt of eschew material (all spells, that can, gain eschew materials while wearing this belt)
Hat of cleverness +3 (+3 to int while wearing this hat)
    +1 Sword

Rob listened to Kalar's answer to Voulton's question about the forest. He was no stranger to people shying away from the truth and he sensed Kalar's motives were deceptive.
Kalar shivered at the thought that Voulton might have noticed what happened. He thanked his lucky stars he was wearing gloves so no one could see his newly silvered hands.

"Did you notice how only the leaders had amulets? I bet anything it was so they'd be free to threaten magic against their own men. Those two dozen guys were no joke. If it weren't for fear of being turned to frogs, they probably could've busted loose on their own." Voulton laughs at his own stupidity. "At one point there were two dozen of us and I bet we could've busted loose, if we'd stopped to think about how strong we were."

"Is there anyone in Vyones we can trust enough to give them a fair trial? Technically, none of them promised us anything. I don't remember them even talking to us. Only one who made any oaths was the one in the hat, and he won't be making or breaking anything again. Had they not tried to kill us, they'd be breaking their oaths to him. Hell, two of 'em stood up to us even without their swords. That's pretty damn loyal. I don't know who's gonna judge these boys, but I'm glad it's not me."

"Actually... it's WEIRD how none of them talked to us. No chit-chat, no dissention in the ranks, no arguing over who does what. Very well oiled machine, and even at the cost of their own lives they never once tried to talk it over with us. Things got a little blurry for me... did anyone hear any orders issued after "KILL THEM ALL"? Were his lieutenants afraid to betray him even after he was dead? What could compel such loyalty?"

"We could always turn them over to Gaspard. And they are just as responsible. 'I was just following orders' is never an excuse to do something you feel is wrong. If they had any qualms about following orders and breaking the agreement, then they should have shown some recalcitrance, none of which I saw. What I saw was them all springing forward to cut our throats without an ounce of hesitation."

Kalar moves over to the man in the hat and removes the hat and belt. He passes these to Hrulgin to load up into the wagon.

He leans down, presses his holy symbol into the forehead of the dead man, and says:

"What would have become of us at Ximes?"

Kalar is casting Speak With Dead.

Next question is tentatively: "What sort of relationships exist between Nathaire, Azedarac, Moriamis, or Gaspard?"

Not sure about the third question yet, but I'm taking suggestions.

"What fair and just lands must you fellows hail from!" Exclaims Rob, a bit sarcastically.

"My bet is that there is no-one in Vyones who will give these men any trial, fair or otherwise. Only Gaspard or Bishop Jean-Luc would have the authority, and neither of them are likely to dare defy Azedarc with that sort of open spectacle."

Rob is just guessing about Jean Luc, but he knows Gaspard has already refused to stand up to Azedarc.

"Besides, Natheire is still getting away, and these poor sots will only slow us down. I still say we just turn them loose."
